Eurocamp sites in France?

Hi there
Which are the best Eurocamp sites in France? Was looking at St Jeans Clary-Plage - Vendee, but there are so many. We are family of 5 with young children, so looking for sun, beach, swimming pool (football??). What is the accommodation like? Is it spacious enough for 5 of us for 2 weeks?
Thanks for your help - any suggestions or advice is much appreciated.

Hiya
It depends where you want to go in France- we've been to one near carnac in Brittany, then one near Royan (more towards mid/south France) and the best (believe it or not) was on the outskirts of Paris. I will give you the link for the one near Paris as it is ideal for children:

This is a beautiful village called the Berny Riviere and is still about an hour outside Paris- near enough for a Disneyland visit but rural enough to walk to the local restaurant and have local French people to try your havd at their language- we found everyone very lovely (both on and off the site) and it is not too far to go on the Champagne tours in Epony (The Mercier one is particulary good for children- our 14 month old loved it as it has a laser train and glass lift with a light show). The site has 3 pools- they change from indoor and outdoor dependant on the weather- including a childrens pool and slides.
There is a lovely restaurant on site with lovely people serving- there is a takeaway on site and tennis courts/ playgrounds/ bike hire. The site also has 3 lakes where people fish and you can pedalo- the ducks and geese come up for feeding when you get your bread and croissants from the bakery on site in the morning. there is a payable inflatable playground and lovely walks in the evening.
We went with Thomson Alfresco on this holiday as they price matched Eurocamp and then gave us a 3 bedroom caravan as a plus to go with them- their caravans (in my own opinion) seemed to be better laid out than when we went with Eurocamp to Royan the same year (although they were very good too) they also have decking included and in this site all the caravans have patio heaters. We went in September and the weather was half the time gorgeous and half cooler, but with the patio heater we could have a glass of wine on the patio at night in our t-shirts!
All in all highly recommended- Royan was lovely too, especially La Rochelle and Brittany was beautiful too. This was my favourite though.
I'm sorry for the length but if I can help any further then let me know- it seems to be a bargaining game between Keycamp, Eurocamp and Thomson Alfresco to see where you can get the best deal- oh yeah, the 3 bed with Thomson included one double room and 2 rooms with 2 single beds (we used 1 room for clothes and 1 for the travel cot which they supplied and fit lovely), the verona in Royan had a pull down bunk and single and a double in the other so seemed fine with lots of room to move but best ask them on the phone as both companies were really honest with us about everything!

Thanks for this - don't mind the length...the lengthier the better - lots of info is great....thanks.
In my mind, I wanted to have direct access to a beach...just thought the kids would like that better, but will have a good look at the one you recommended - I'd say recommendation better than anything really, so thanks for all the info. Did you drive from the UK or did you fly? We have driven to EuroDisney before so wouldn't have a problem there, but wondered if it was easy to drive to the camp, or would you recommend flying?0 -
We stayed at Les Ecureuils in the Vendee area, it was a lovely site, lots to do for children, there's an indoor pool as well as the outdoor pool complex, which is great if you get some bad weather, the people there were very friendly, and the beach was just across the road and a short walk over the sand dunes.
The only other Eurocamp site we have stayed on was Raguenes Plage in Brittany, which was also fantastic, had a lovely family atmosphere etc.....it only has an outdoor pool though, although we went in May and it was plenty warm enough to swim outside.
I can't wait to go back, and I would highly recommend Eurocamp - the only reason we are not going this year is that I'm 6 months pregnant!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Whilst I havent been on a Eurocamp holiday, I spke to their customer services the other day to talk about wheelchair accessible sites. I found them most helpful, not pushy at all, so why dont you give them a call cuffie and discuss your requirements with them.0

We stayed there last October as part of a SUN holiday, but accomodation was with Keycamp rather than Eurocamp so cant comment on their accom.
Lovely lovely site,an easy drive to DLRP ,though the site does do a coach trip there a few times a week too0 -
Hiya Cuffie
We drove to the site- you literally go through villages to get there- you're right about needing a beach but found if you don't mind driving, we had more to do here than on the beach fronted site in Brittany, oh yeah the Royan one was on a massive man made beach and had the most fantastic zoo up the road- I will find the site......
Bonne Anse Plage

nicely sited too but be warned, the restaurant and takeaway on site is massively expensive compared to a 2 min drive away (double the price) and washing machines/ dryers expensive too- apart from this, nice pool, fab zoo, nice beach, supermarket on site and used alot by dutch as they think it's great! Royan town nice too as has nice harbour and picturesque front cafes. Down the motorway is Dordogne city which I found very scarey- walk London lots alone but would not there- felt intimidated and got a pen thrown at us when walked passed a shop (still unaware why as just pushing buggy by with hubby)! Outskirts were lovely though and people in Royan again were fantastic! We drove there too and some people had flown from Ireland and found it expensive but worth it (for us we needed to have baby stuff with us as son was only 1 year old at the time). Take into costs the toll roads though as they are well worth it but can make it costly! We drove the non toll roads to Dordogne and it took us double the time but much more picturesque! Have fun whereever you go!0 -
We have stayed at Les Ecureils also. Our child was 5 at the time and wanted to play by the pool with his new friends rather than go on the beach. Many others have noticed this so don't be to fixed on a beach location. The Vendee coast area, whilst nice, is not true France. It consists of many holidays camps on both side of a road running by the sea. We have been Eurocamping, Sibluing (Haven Europe) 7 times and now go to the Dordogne most years for the beter weather and scenary and real France.0

Sorry to butt in!
Any advice on how accessible Berny Riviere is by train from Paris? We've flown to Paris before and then got the train to Fontainebleau and stayed on a nice site; but the Berny Riviere is tempting. We prefer not to drive if poss - so any info about public transport would be welcome.
Thanks!C'est le ton qui fait la chanson0 -
Hi
we stayed at Berny, it is a lovely site we also did some work training there, for canvas holidays, the local town is within walking distance but im affaid i dont know if there is a train station there, im sure if you look on either euro camp, keycamp or canvas it would give you this information..
as far as im aware keycamp is still owned by eurocamp, and i have found keycamp to be a lot cheaper for the same packages so it might be worth checking this out..
we have just booked to go to disney paris then drive to the loire valley campsite pierrefitte, for a week it is a amazing site (as i briefly worked there to) its great for everyone.. especailly kids ill add a link below..
goodluck with your holidayx
