My mum has a wal.... something boiler that broke about a year ago, she had some bloke come out and 'fix it' and now she is having the same problem again! it keeps cutting out and not heating!
She phoned this geezer up (I think she said from Heatcare) and he said he would come round yesterday at 4:00 he didn't show and is not answering his phone.
My mum is stuck with what to do!!
Is she able to get some kind of grant as she is on benefits and can't afford to do to much!!!
Please help!
Thank you

I am afraid when you deal with plumbers you will find most totally non-discriminatory. They will rip you off regardless of race, religion, rich, poor, young or old.
It is only by word of mouth you might find a good honest plumber.
Another option is to find someone with some reasonable mechanical knowledge to take details of the boiler, and its fault, and go on one of the various forums where you can get excellent advice; there is such a Board on this site.
Failing that I suppose she will need to go to Social Services; I am not aware on any grants specifically for that purpose.0 -
Hi
Cardew, I won't be offended ....really, no, it's ok. Just say what you feel.
Angelcake where in the country are you ?
If you post as much info as possible then someone might be able to help.

If mum is on benefits she may qualify for a warm front grant. If you do a google you will find all the info you need. They can replace the boiler for her but it can take a long time for them to get round to doing it.0

Hi
Is it a wallstar, wall mounted boiler thats serviced from the outside?
If so we had this problem with the same boiler in our old house, as we had emergency cover with our hous einsurance we used that, but the plumber they sent was useless and kept insisting it was the thermostat which was a fortune to fix, any how they never managed to get a part and the insurance firm allowed us to contact the man who serviced the boiler for us, he fixed it for £40, it was a fault with something like a coupling to the ignitor, really easy to do took under 30 mins, and was perfect afterwards.
Go to someone who is oftec registered.
PS We were taught how to reset it as well, take the back panel off and press the big red button, that overrides the fault as at least your mum will have heating and water again.Always on the hunt for a bargain0
