Ive suddenly discovered my style. Dresses! I wore them all the time in my teens and twenties but moved on to seperates into my 30s and 40s and ive suddenly discovered them again. Unless they are the same dark colour, seperates do nothing for my figure (unless i wear a long, coloured jacket to add a bit of interest).
I get my stuff mainly from Debenhams. Wallis clothes fit me perfectly but ive got some stuff from M&S (mainly seperates).
I cant walk in cheap shoes i stick to Clarks now.
That's a coincidence I was only telling someone at work today that I'm finding I like dresses more and more ( as long as they're knee length). How would you wear dresses in Summer? I hate my legs (varicose veins):( but it never feels right wearing tights in summer especially when work colleagues with good legs go bare-legged!0 -
I buy my clothes from charity shops and car boot sales, except for walking gear which I buy from an outdoor shop. Sometimes people give me clothes when they are having a sort out. I love free stuff :T

Calf-length or maxi dresses hide a multitude of sins...0 -

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm wearing a maxi skirt today (for warmth:D) but long, floaty dresses in summer feel great.
There was a time when I used to go to Monsoon and always find something I liked....no longer!! I'm not sure if it's my tastes have changed or their stuff has got very stylised and frumpy.
Personally I find that all my recent buys have been from a range of stores from chazza shops to Jigsaw and Joules. One of my favourite knee length jersey dresses is from Tesco but I also love my Boden wrapover and my Primark skirt.
I think that with clothes shopping (like food) you need to shop around. You don't always get what you pay for. Or rather you do but sometimes you're paying for the ambience of the shopping experience rather than the quality of the goods.
I'd only ever buy basics in M&S (plain trousers, tops, cardigan, knickers). I really dislike the fussiness of Per Una.
Thank goodness we're all different or the industry would collapse!0 -
Boden has some lovely clothes but is too expensive for me!
i was looking at a nice jacket but :eek:0 -
I'm another Car booter. And a friend pointed out another trick to me.
Look at the person running the stall - if they are about your size (and look clean and respectable!) then chances are they are selling at least some of their own stuff and it's worth having a rumage!
I also go to a local market - not ideal as you can't always try stuff on - but some of the charity shops are getting a bit expensive and I find Primark has just too much stuff to look through, I really can't face it all!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

Thats what hold ups stockings were invented for. Much cooler in the summer. I wear them in the summer to give my legs a better shape than just a bare leg..0 -
I've just turned 40 and am currently a size 12-14. Generally a Next girl although, like you, I find this years selection uninspiring. I love Peacocks although I believe they've gone into liquidation. Other than that, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams, New Look, Very.co.uk and the odd bit from Miss Selfridge and Primark. Don't even think about Bon Marche unless you want to look like your grandma (sorry to all those ladies who shop there).0

:rotfl:I do this too!
I'm another ebay, charity shop, car boot fan - I need to dress smartly for work and apart from the fact I don't want to spend a fortune on clothes - I seem to have lost my "going shopping" mojo!
I buy quite a lot of Alex & Co/Country Casuals/Next/Per Una/John Rocha from ebay - more than I ought to if I'm honest! I tend to buy longish skirts (to hide bad legs!), tops and jackets as well as skirt and trouser suits.
I find it easier to take chances when I'm only paying a tenner for something and often, something is "good enough" for when when it was only ten quid!
I treated myself to three good winter coats last autumn so I now have a selection of coats to wear, Precis, Whistles and Principles - my colleagues comment on my lovely selection of coats and - probably less than £80 all together!
When I had some budget I was fond of Debenhams personal shopping, the shoppers often found gems that I hadn't found, made me try things in a different shape and often had really good bargains. It's really worth trying if you've lost track of how best to dress for your figure.Piglet
