Tablet time...how do you do it?

Do you offer the foods without tablets? It can help to keep the dog guessing - for every bit of ham/chicken/whatever you give with a treat in, try 2, 3, 4 or so without.
If you're feeding large amounts then perhaps consider using a complete wet food instead, and adjusting the amount of normal food you feed to compensate - that way you're not unbalancing the diet. Something like Naturediet, which can be warmed in the microwave to be extra appealing, can be an idea.0 -
Hi.... My Elsie the wonder dog is on Vetemedin, Fortekor(sp?) and Frusimide ....I was also told that you'll have no probs as the Vetemedin is palatable and she will take it no probs....hmmmmm..
After trying tuna, chicken, ham etc etc....Ive found paste - chicken, beef or fish ...rolled into small little footballs - she takes her meds as if they are treats now!!! - she only has to hear the childproof lock lid and she knows shes having her "football";) treat!
Best of luck

Yep we do the no tablet/tablet thing with him to keep him on his toes
We struggle with wet food at present, Jack's illness means he sometimes has difficulties eating (we have no idea why as his condition isn't well studied in dogs as most are diagnosed post mortem, but the same condition in humans can affect eating due to neurological problems) for some reason wet food can be difficult for him, he 'chomps' at it for want of a better word making one heck of a mess. He seems to handle dried food much better.0 -
Personally im excellent at doing the tablets, my boys dont stand a chance :rotfl:
Come on then what's your secret.........:p :rotfl:
You will laugh at this I give my dog his daily glucosamine joint capsule wrapped in a slither of cucumber and another piece straight after to make sure it's gone down. He's generally not fussy and loves the cucumber?!? he even waits in the kitchen when he knows I'm doing it! :rotfl:
Tried this method with worm tabs but it didn't work. So I generally put them in chicken and usually make sure he is in the other room so I practice the "come" command and he tends to wolf it without thinking about it when he has come running to me!

You can get dog "treats" like these pouches made to put tablets in, not tried them so don't know how healthy the ingredients are and they are pretty expensive too!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's

I find sticky stuff the easiest, so either cheese or for a while, milky way did very well.

Does he like / is he allowed fish? How about trying to disguise them in as little as possible tinned sardines (in his food bowl) seen as they smell so strong!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's

Cheese always works for me. Give a piece of cheese, then a second, then hide the pill in a third. While you give the third with the pill, let the dog see a fourth piece. Mine are so busy trying to scoff the third piece to get to the fourth, they don't even notice the pill.0

I'd thought of cheese slices to be honest, but cheese isn't ideal with liver problems so that one is out

He has a tin of sardines a day now (trying to introduce more oil into him at present) and he struggles a bit with it being a wet food so he'd probably pick around them knowing Jack!
The treats are quite good, but yes, very expensive and would only last 2 days!!0 -
I found sausage meat worked with my bichon.
He's on strike about his kibble atm but the kibble mixed in and stuck to the sausage meat and he ate it all!
Shocked me. Worth a try?0
