  • That's a fabulous picture bribrian. Was that taken solely with the camera - no other accessories?
I really, really want a 'proper' camera but am so put off with the batteries thing. Can you get bridge cameras with rechargeable batteries?
You can, but there is such a big choice! I was going to get this, but I have been looking at the Panasonic FZ45, which has rechargeable batteries (lasts over 500 shots!) and a 24x zoom, John Lewis do a price match and Argos have it for £199, but stock is limited, so I am trying to get a price match from them.
  • I bought one of these last week for £109 inc delivery from Homebase as there was 20% off could be worth checking if they are still running this discount.

The AA battery aspect is what would put me off, as I've had a few cameras that took batteries in the past and all of them ate them up.. especially on the video function.. Although I suppose you could get around that with a few rechargeable batteries.

I'm just the opposite, been caught out when traveling before without my cameras charger - at least with standard battery run cameras you can buy some in an emergency. Agree rechargables are the way to go, I use my camera pretty much every day and a good quality rechargable will last several weeks between charging.

it does take a little bit of adjustment going back to AA batteries compared with a rechargeable lithium battery. My compact camera takes AAs now, as does DD's bridge camera (hers takes 4 AAs). She got her camera for Christmas, is practising loads with it, and she's still on her first lot of AAs (I get rechargeable Duracell AA camera-strength batteries from Amazon, around £4 for 4).

There's a reviewHere that shows some of the pictures taken with it and the quality which could be useful?

Please don't let this put you off... IMHO the fact it takes AA batteries is a huge plus point.

As someone mentioned above, never again will you be stuck with a useless lump of plastic because your batteries have run out, just buy some from your local shop.

As for running down quickly... you need to get the right batteries. I use Uniross Hybrio 2100MAh recahargeable batteries and they are excellent, can't fault them at all. They really last for ages.

This brings me on to the next point - AA rechargeables are dirt cheap (in comparison to specialised batteries) so have some in the camera, some spares charged in your camera bag and you are sorted. If the specialist battery in a camer breaks, Sony / Nikon or whoever could charge you £20 or £30.... whereas 4 Hybrios are about £5 on ebay or in shops..

Photo straight from the camera... ;)
I bought my Uniross 2700 rechargeables as they came out top in a detailed test, I'll try & find the link... Buy 2 good sets of rechargeables & you'll never get caught out...

we ordered this camera from Homebase before Xmas and had such a nightmare in that the order was passed to Argos, then they failed to deliver it twice so finally got it mid January with voucher for £30 from Argos for messing us about. camera itself is great and we have been very happy with it since, regardless of having to use batteries. we have used for both photos and videos. for that price you are getting a great camera!
