De Vere are selling the Grand Harbour so there's a chance of many changes before September. It is already no longer classed as 5*.

The Premier Inn (West Quay) is very new and very nice, and it's pretty close to the port.

The Dolphin Hotel has a cruise package...leave your car there and taxi to port included in package.

If the cruise is a long one consider a park on my drive much cheaper.

also look at holiday inn 2-4-1 deals and family and friends.

Also devere have quite a few venues within 2 hrs that often have good rates.

Depends where you are coming from and what your parking plans are.

If the venue at uplands has a cheap room, 10mins from the m40 and a great curry house nearby. <2hr to the port.

We got a special offer rate for Premier Inn West Quay last time, £29, and it is all shiny and new and lovely (use topcash), very central and you get a free half an hour wi fi which is useful for checking your emails.

Previously we have stayed at Grand Harbour when we have got a special offer rate, the bedrooms are very dated, old fashioned cube TVs in a cabinet but it does have a nice pool and breakfast is very good. You also pay seperatley for the car park. Not worth more than £50 a night though.

But dont dismiss Etap. It is central, clean great showers, cheap and it is after all only for one night. They also have a secure room for putting luggage in the morning. We have stayed there a couple of times and gone next door to McDonalds for breakfast. Given a choice I would rather save money on the pre stay hotel, dinner and breakfast and use this money instead towards my onboard spending.

We always use the trains so we have never had to worry about the car parking. The taxi drivers around Southampton are great, neve rhad any problems.

We go to Ikea for dinner in the evening. Ikea is a long way from us here so its a bit of a teat :) Also from the car park on the top floor you can see if any cruise ships are in port.

There are usually discount rates for Holiday Inn somewhere on MSE but tis really expensive to start with. Also try laterooms and again go through Topcash.
