Hi, I am looking for a hotel to stay in september, overnight, as we are cruising from southampton the following day.
Any help with hotels close to the port would be much appreciated

Nearest the port are the usual cheap suspects (Etap, Novotel etc.). You then have the De Vere Grand Harbour 5* but you pay the price. Also a Holiday Inn - standard HI fare although a little dated now. Several bar/restaurants with accommodation near the port on Oxford Street (nice eating & drinking area) White Star or Cargo have nice boutique type rooms & pretty good value. Then the usual mix of city centre hotels such as Mercure Dolphin (recently taken over by Mercure & refurbished but I have not been in yet).0

I think you can get special deals on the new Harbour hotel, I did a day deal there once whilst waiting for the ship and it was a lovely hotel and able to leave the car there for the trip0

Thank you both, that is most helpful

We stayed in the Ibis in Southampton last September, it was clean and modern with parking and overlooks the dock.
Ibis have very reasonable rates especially if booked in advance.
The De Vere has lost it's 5* status, it's now a 4*. It's not worth the extra money staying there anymore, hence why we chose the Ibis last year.0 -

Sorry, forgot its now 4*. Not stayed but had events there and it seems more of a 4* anyway, agree with your comment doesnt seem value for money for me.0 -

Our first stay at the De Vere was a few years back and ended up having drinks with Sven Goran Eriksson and the Man City Football Team and then up popped Barry Maguigan from a Pogoda within the atrium, made for an interesting and eventful evening.
Anyway I digress, we had a fab meal there and the rooms were lovely but a year later we stayed there twice and both times we noticed a drop in standards so last year we decided to stay at the Ibis. Got to say I'm a quite a fan of the Ibis chain, never stayed in a bad one yet.0 -
Never stayed in an Ibis, are they that good? Just assumed (probably wrongly - sorry Ibis) they were not that good!0

If you are driving consider staying in a hotel about an hour from the port - you get better hotels at cheaper rates We usually use Premierinns, doing a search by map we find the cheapest on the trip to Southampton and use that.
You have plenty of time on the morning of departure to do the last part of the journey.0 -
Hi,
My husband and I took advantage of the Lastminute.com secret room offer and stayed at the De Vere Grand Harbour for just £50 and booked via Topcashback too! maybe you could give that a try?

Extra payment a week - 5/2/12 - £11.84 :T0 -
