Moving from TalkTalk will cost £100+?

If you pay TalkTalk line rental it probably means that you are on LLU what this means is TalkTalk have paid BT Open reach to take over the wiring from the exchange to your house as well as provide broadband and voice calls off Talk Talk equipment in the BT exchange.
BT Open reach still maintain the physical telephone from the exchange to you on Talk Talks behalf.
With a BT line you can have broadband and calls with another provider enabled but still retain the line rental with BT, and change broadband and voice services providers without getting a new line installed.
LLU line provides broadband and calls only with that provider eg Talk Talk hence why you may need to get a BT line installed to use other providers broadband and voice calls services0 -
Just to add to the debate - I'm leaving TT next week (from an LLU line and at end of contract) and have been able to transfer straight to Plusnet for phone & broadband. Did it all online with no MAC needed. Whether this is because Plusnet are part of BT, I don't know, but so far, so good - D-day is next Tuesday so I may be gone from here for some time...
Edit to say this was done with no charge from Plusnet
Plusnet is not an LLU provider, so it's not an LLU to LLU transfer-no issue arises. No free lunch, and no free laptop

ok so is it only a prob if you are looking to move to another llu provider?:j0

Not necessarily so. Have a look at your preferred options from the providers available, then ring them and ask if it isn't clear on their websites. Don't forget you don't have to go to BT retail if you want to go back to a "BT Line". Any number of BT resellers can provide you with a line. The P.O. deal is free installation at the moment and only a £15 penalty if you leave within 6 months I'm led to believe. Plusnet deals may be of interest depending on your BB usage. Just under £50 for a new line but you have to take their BB.0

I have recently canceled my contract with Talk Talk due to them not being able to sort out simple phone and broadband faults. I changed over to Sky. I then recived a bill asking for just under £200. I called and questioned this and was told that they had included the last months charges of around £50 so I paid that. I did however challenge the tremination charge as I thought that I had to cancel due to thier poor service. After a long conversation withj one of thier customer services people I was told that as a full and final payment I would have to pay £8. I said to them are you sure he said yes so I paid it over the phone. I have then today recived a bill for £142.43. I called them again and they have now told me that I actually owed them £90. I then waited on the line for an age before my call was ended while I was waiting (not for the first time). I called back again spoke to another guy who told me they had no record of the agreement and that if I wished to contest it I would have to request a freedom of information act request along witha £10 admin fee for them to check the call. I was also told that on the day I payed £8 over the phone they actually took another £39 as well.
So basically they have either lied to me taken money from my account they should not have done and are unwilling to sort out a problem caused by there own staff. This is the worst customer service I have ever come accross.0
