It's going to happen anyway, unless the OP attempts to deceive the insurer by withholding material information and/or answering in the negative when asked have you have any accidents within the last 5 years.Yes and allow them to inflate your premium for the next 5 years and take some NCD off you, just for £150.
...
Better to take the £150 than nothing at all."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
OP you are supposed to report it to your insurer and go through the insurance. Thats the proper advice as to what should be done.
The real advice from real world experience is to pay the £150 and get her to sign something to state the problem has been rectified, date it and put the amount along with contact details of each party. As others have already said £150 for the repair is a fair amount and it sounds like the person you hit has been fair too. They could have gone straight to their insurer and let them deal with it, which if they had of you would have heard about it by now.
If it goes through the insurance company you will lose your NCB and you will have a hike in your premiums which no doubt will be a lot more than £150 over the next few years. The person claiming will also see a price increase even though it was your fault. £150 is cheap.
Obviously this is only my advice and the top advice I gave is what you are supposed to do, its up to you to decide what is right for you!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I wouldn't tell the insurance company. Settled £150 cash - neither party reports it, what is the insurance company going to do about it?It's going to happen anyway, unless the OP attempts to deceive the insurer by withholding material information and/or answering in the negative when asked have you have any accidents within the last 5 years.

But if you go down the route of reporting but not claiming they'll put it up and bit but you'll still have your NCD.
Claim and you'll lose NCD as well, so not reporting but not claiming is cheaper than claiming in the long run.
Personally I think there's something seriously wrong with the insurance industry if we're in a situation where its commonplace to settle in cash rather than use the insurance company to do what we pay them for, for fear of what they will do to our premiums as a result, but that's how things are...0 -
If someone hit my car and I came back with a reasonable quote and they started 'umming and arring' about the price, I'd be straight onto my insurer and would have them lose thousands via loss of NCB in the coming years.
It's £150, just pay the damn bill and stop holding the 3rd party up.0
