  • Hi, I'm in a similar situation. My forms were all filled in for me with just my signature being required when I was a naive 18yr old- back in 2003. I had 2 accounts, one with Dorothy Perkins (the same group as topman) and another with River Island. I think they were both GE money at the time but I have no paperwork. I've spoken to DP's who claim to have no record of my account but not they use Santander, I'm not sure who I should be chasing for account details, Dorothy Perkins, GE Money (as that is who the credit was with) or Santander that they now use?? I don't see how Santander will have any record of me but I know for certain that 1 and I'm pretty sure both had PPI on.. I'd never heard of it until all of this 'reclaim your PPI' malarky started so I know I never asked for it and I remember filling in the form like it was yesterday. She filled it in, slid it across the counter for me to put my paw print on and made the phone call...

Any idea where I should go next to try and A) get hold of my old account numbers and B) how I can claim with it being about 10yrs ago?? I've tried calling HSBC which is who I used to bank with at the time to see if they can access my old account details and maybe get some info off my old bank account but their systems are down atm, will try again later but I'm fast running out of ideas.. Does anyone else know what I can do? They had a lot of money out of me and if I'm entitled to some of it back, I don't see why they should keep it :(

You aren't entitled to the money back unless you can construct a robust mis-selling complaint. Do remember that 2003 was two years prior to regulation and the seller can decline any complaint on that basis alone..

Firstly, they weren't regulated at the time of sale.

Secondly, if you have a chance of dinsing account numbers, you eed to send a SAR to Santander and £10.

Then when you have the account numbers you complaint to Santander who will reject your complaint because it's pre-regulation.

Then you complain to Genworth and see what they say.

  • Thanks Taff, so even though my account was never with Santander and I've never dealt with them, it is them I need to pursue?

    Find the account numbers.
Complain to santander because they currently own those cards
    Wait for their rejection
    Complain to Genworth.

Thanks, Sun73. Does that mean I should contact Genworth Insurance? Do you have details? I have the original statements with all the PPI detailed on it.

Genworth's address is in this link re Top Shop/Burtons/DP cards:

Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

Feels strange picking this thread up six years after I started it, but I have an update!

I wrote in February 2018 to ask for an appeal on this PPI mis-selling ruling from 2012 (for an account dating back to October 1996 - still had the paperwork!).

My appeal has just been upheld, so I should receive a cheque for £729 shortly. Many thanks to Mersey for adding the link to Genworth Complaints department (two years ago!).

Is the cheque from Genworth or Santander?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Sorry, Nasqueron - it is from Santander.
