Car care plan - absolute joke !

Having the unfortunate circumstance of crashing a car and it resulted in a write off, I then began my dealings with Car Care Plan of claiming the GAP Insurance that I had paid at the start of the agreement. As far as timescale goes, be warned, DO NOT hold your breath. I am still yet to comprehend how it takes a company that deals and only deals with this type of insurance 15...yes 15 working days to process the paperwork and then take a further 5 working days to confirm that the paperwork has been checked correctly....!!!!!! !!........Now if I have learnt one thing from all this is to be very very wary of black ice....not only does it make a mess of your car (after it flips it and ends up in a field !) but it also drives your mad with frustration due to the incompetance of insurance companies who will gladly take your money in a flash yet find it almost impossible of finding the time to reimburse your claim amount !

STAY CLEAR OF CAR CARE PLAN - I will from now on !

From their website, it looks like Car Care Plan are an intermediary who arrange various products for the motor industry, so I assume you purchased your GAP policy via a motor dealer.

Check the GAP policy documents to see if it mentions a normal period of a number of days for GAP claims to be settled once your main motor insurer has provided their settlement.

Some GAP policies do state that :
Subject to receiving all necessary information and supporting
documentation, where applicable any settlement will be made directly
to the finance company on Your behalf with any remaining funds paid
directly to You within 14 days of the Motor Insurers settlement.
But, if you are not getting fair treatment, write a letter of complaint and escalate to the FOS if the complaint is not handled in good time.

  • On 16th January they told me that claims took approx 10-15 working days. Yesterday (day 13) they said the claim had gone to the underwriters for approval and they expected a response later yesterday. Today they haven't answered my email. I'll phone them in a bit.
  • Phoned CCP. They reckoned they had just chased the underwriter.
  • Notified that payment was being processed on (working day) 16 after the claim was accepted, 21 working days after I first contacted Car Care Plan about my claim.

Mine experience wasn't that bad it was about 4 weeks but I have a different problem.
They contacted me and said that they deducted £2500 from my final payment because they talk to the dealed and the dealer agreed to give me a £2500 discount.
Is this legal? Can they do such thing?
    Doesn't seem to me.
Please, please, please help if you know anything.
    Kindest regards.

Can you give more details eg what type of Gap Cover do you have?

Did you receive the discount from the dealer and if so was it when you bought the original car or a replacement.

    Who sold you the cover

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

It's VRI GAP (Vehicle Replacement Insurance) with Car Care Plan.

The amount they substracted has nothing to do with any discount that I had when I bought the car (as it's the VRI GAP)

Basically, I got a quote for a brand new Like For Like car (VRI), gave that quote to CCP (so they could cover the gap between what my standard insusrer paid out and a brand new car) but then, they contacted me and told me that they substracted £2500 from the difference (my final payout) because they spoke to the dealer and they agreed between themselves (CCP and the dealer) that the dealer would give me £2500 disount if I wanted to buy the car from them (obvoiusly I wouldn't get discount anywhere else).

This doesn't seem right to me.

    Thanks again for your help!
