Supermarket price fixing on petrol

I spend around £100 per week on petrol for business use and feel cheated by the fact that locally (to Stratford upon Avon) All the petrol stations prices vary by only 1p per litre.
Whereas if I drive 7 or 8 miles in almost any direction petrol prices are as much as 3p per litre cheaper even within the same chain. At nearby towns
Tesco petrol stations are among the worst offenders. Their Stratford Upon Avon Petrol Station has banners on the forecourt roof claiming 'Lowest petrol prices' when in fact the opposite is often true. A false statement.
I thought pricing cartels were illegal.

There is no cartel you have the option of driving 14 miles to buy your petrol cheaper by 3p not 7-8 miles.
The cheapest is
130.7 @ Asda Leamington 14 miles away
131.9 @ Tesco Emscote 12 miles
132.9 @ Shell Hatton 9 miles
133.9 @ Stratford
It's the same everywhere.0 -
Similar prices does not equal a cartel.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Just move closer to the cheaper petrol stations. That'll save you money!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Thank God for our local Tesco eight miles away 131.9, local garage 3 miles away 141.8 :eek:0

I read somewhere that asda pretty much always have the cheapest petrol prices. If you live near an asda all other local supermarkets will lower their prices to compete. If you are nowhere near an asda you pay more. No idea how true this is, I just read it in the paper. Although I do live near an asda and my local petrol prices are significantly lower than my friends (who don't live near asda)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. We have Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and a Morrisons near me and the cheapest on a regular basis is my local Shell.0

One of my distant relatives used to travel just under 10 miles (one way) to get his petrol -- he saved about 5p per Litre. Never did understand the logic0

Pricing based on local competition happens in lots of industries, not just petrol.
By similar logic, estate agents in London must be in a cartel because you can buy a house for much less if go to Leeds.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
What a daft thread. You adjust your prices based on local competition.0

Could it not be said that Taxis fares are cartels, considering the meters have to be calibrated according to the prices set by the council.0
