We have around 2 or 3 holidays per year, so thanks for the comment of us being naive, but we do ok thanks!

You could have flown to Sri Lanka with Qatar with Virgin Holidays!!

I must admit, I would be a little peeved when the Virgin Holiday Website clearly highlighted the airlines they use - but for whatever reason, they used Etihad - and the OP is quite correct, they don't get raving reviews and are not on a par with Emirates and moreso Qatar.

This is at best misleading and I would not be hapy about this - although I suspect there will be some disclaimer hidden in the bowels of the T&C's that will allow them to use an alternative airline.

I will retract my comment about the OP being too hasty - because I would be tempted to do the same knowing the full facts.

I really don't understand what you have got the wrong way round but a dummy booking with Virgin Holidays to Sri Lanka in October offers me a choice of the following airlines:

    Qatar
    Sri Lankan
    Emirates
    Etihad

and if you want to take the scenic and more expensive route:

    Cathay Pacific
    Singapore Airlines
    Malaysia

There would of possibly been some way around the issue

When did you realise that the holiday was with this airline?

Have you confirmed the holiday with Thomson?

You could of paid and additional £35 per person to change your holiday with ourselves and pay the deposit again, the remainder of the other deposit would of been transfered to your new holiday

I have had nothing but excellent flights with Etihad! Far superior to most European airlines (I say most as they are better than the ones i've flown).

Very surprised - they are miles better than Emirates in my personal experience. They are also know for having 'fallen out' with Skytrax (i.e. don't pay to advertise) so good reviews don't tend to appear (see also: Virgin).

Again, seems an extreme thing to lose money over - Qatar are great - but I wouldn't be paying massively more to be flying on them. Also surprised Virgin wouldn't offer them to you for a supplement.

I'm still a bit mystified tbh.

Yes you are right, maybe we should have. But they were so unhelpfull when we called them. We couldnt even get them to upgrade us to the villa. We thought we could cancel with the 7 days distance selling act, however we can not. Its no biggy, we can use the voucher.

In anycase, paying extra for extra for a bigger seat and better service is always worth it, we think.

After all, its a holiday so you should treat yourself
