Saw oblivion at the trafford centre. There were quite a few people turning up trying to get a seat but it was full. Got there about 6.10 as was in the queue for free ben and jerrys ice cream and it was fairly full then.its not usually that bad.A guy who was assisting with the screening went round checking if there were any spare seats. Either it was over subscribed or people have been naughty copying their tickets. Got the free ice cream ( suprised they were actually advertising it!) but left the free popcorn as it was salted :-(

you see families coming in when you only allowed 2 tickets wish the check ids!

Probably they have more than one account. In the case of Virgin they could have several phones or TV and phones.

    Not everyone is fiddling tickets.

You Can have as many film first accounts you want. and Sky you can add multiple users, and each user can order tickets. Dont Know if virgin to the same as sky.

For family friendly films you can sometimes claim up to 4 tickets, I took my 2 kids to see The Croods recently with seefilmfirst and this was definitely the case, sky screenings do the same too if its more a kids film

I think that would be fine if it was a kids film (like The Croods which was recently mentioned), but maybe they should try just doing previews of kids films, and 15's/18's for adults, or you do invite the crossover family audience - especially if it's a big film with Tom Cruise, or the third Iron Man film. I mean it's lucky you'll be seeing a big film like that for free, but if you can't get in because there are too many people in the audience and you've wasted a trip...it's just something that could be easily avoided. Nip it in the bud, either through ticket checking/allocation, the actual choice of the film/time it's shown (e.g. daytime weekend for kiddies films, evenings for adults), or something else (I don't work for these companies).

They didn't check for ID in Cardiff for Evil Dead. I even said "would you like to see my ID?" and the boy just said "Nope, don't worry about it". The doorman just asked us to turn phones off when the lights go dim and pre-warned about the infra red gadget, I'm fine with that... it's a damn sight better than the ones in the past where they'd make you put your phones in a box!

I spent the day before refreshing the SFF website so see if an extra would pop up for a friend (and it did eventually) but it would be so easy to fake an extra one... I don't see any point at all in them having barcodes if they don't scan them on entry. It's literally a 10 second edit job to change a name and reprint it...

The previous posts about being rejected actually reminded me of a time I went and a poor couple had walked up to the queue with their drinks, food and tickets only to be told it's full. A guy in front offered his seat and left because his friend hadn't arrived which was a really nice gesture! Shame there isn't many other people with that generosity or honesty in the world!

It's not a question of inviting anyone. The film's certificate dictates who can see it. When the films are family orientated such as The Croods, then it is usually up to four tickets per application that can be claimed. These are generally films with a PG or U certificate.
Once the film is 12A or above, then the application is for up to two tickets. However, people are allowed to claim with more than one account if they are applying to SFF, TellTen etc
With Sky, an account holder can add guest accounts so if there are more than 4 people wanting to see a family film or 2 for a 12a film then they will probably apply using a second or third account.

As for Virgin, you cannot have guest accounts. Each application has to be either a TV, Broadband or mobile phone account but again, people often have more than one product or service with them and can therefore apply for more than one set of tickets.

The times are consistent too. Usually family films are on a Sunday or Saturday morning (although there have been exceptions) with most other previews showing at 6:30pm (7pm at Showcase or O2). Again there are exceptions. Picturehouse always show previews on a Sunday morning and we do sometimes have non family orientated films shown on a Sunday morning too. One example that springs to mind is The Intouchables (Untouchable) which had a preview on a Sunday morning.

TBH I don't understand the point you are making regarding the times of the advance screenings!

I guess you're right actually, as most of the advance screenings I've been to have been at Picturehouse on a Sunday morning, and most have been at least 70%-80% full. I have seen Amour, Argo and Beasts of the Southern Wild at these early showings and they've been quite convenient. I don't know what my point was earlier, but I think once people start typing on these forums they start pondering things out loud. So I dunno, I guess I was just typing for the sake of it.

Anyway, not too fussed about Oblivion in the end but going to see it anyway at the weekend. Was more looking forward to possible The Place Beyond the Pines screenings and won tickets to it in London but couldn't get up there this evening :( shame some of these films are only shown in larger cities - they have done smaller towns in the past, I have seen The Artist and The Cabin in the Woods in Basingstoke in the past. But recently it's been big films in big or generally more cities, and smaller films in big cities (London, Bristol, Manchester etc). Oh well.
