The fact that you are only "a bit cynical" attests to your tolerance! I just take it as proof positive that something fishy is going on!0 -

Sometimes I really do feel these companies need to be made aware of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008:A commercial practice is a misleading action if...if it contains false information and is therefore untruthful in relation to any of the matters in paragraph (4) or if it or its overall presentation in any way deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer in relation to any of the matters in that paragraph, even if the information is factually correct.
(4) The matters referred to in paragraph (2)(a) are
(j)the nature, attributes and rights of the trader (as defined in paragraph 6);
(6) In paragraph (4)(j), the “nature, attributes and rights” as far as concern the trader include the trader’s—
(a)identity;
(f)affiliations or connections;
In other words, writing fake reviews is unlawful under this act.0 -
Hi
The Mac4cash has asked us to post a response on its behalf. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum.
Mac4cash are a company that specialise in buying unwanted Apple Mac equipment. The company relies on the customers being straight and accurate with their quotes.
Prior to accepting a quote the client is given the choice as to whether they want to use the free quote service or use our collection service. We then collect the unit and stress test the item for 48hrs we then send a cheque for the quoted amount. We pay very high remuneration compared to other recyclers so it is understandable that we can’t pay £180 for a 6yr old laptop that requires a £350 logic
board.
Our customers are generally very happy with our service and we are sorry for any frustration caused by problems that arise when a fault is discovered that isn’t known by the client when selling their laptop to us.
Prior to this forum we have offered Blunt Crayon the return of her unit for the covering cost of the collection only. Please feel free when receiving your unit back to have an independent assessment of your Mac book by Apple. This can be done for free. If it turns out we are wrong in any way we will return the shipping cost to you.

Mac4Cash have just got in touch with me and agreed to refund all delivery costs, they had previously agreed to reduce the delivery costs to £15 from £34 (and I had agreed to pay this) so I do think they have tried to be genuinely helpful - not a con as I initially was worried.plus ça change........0
