Who is actually giving the 10yr Gtee?0
-
They apparently give this guarantee if they service each year and we power flush every 3 years. The 5 year one is from Valliant (which I am most keen on)0

Afternoon!
Personally I would get a few more quotes, it's best to get around 3 and then compare to see which is best and also see what others may be offering!

Thanks, I had this one also- quotation of £4,484.00 ex VAT, which would comprise of the following works.
Installation of a new Remeha Avanta 28C Condensing Combination Boiler unit sited within the first floor cupboard, complete with flue system terminating through the wall to the exterior.
Installation of a total of 7No Steel panel radiators complete with thermostatic valves for individual room temperature control.
Installation of a heating distribution system fitted using copper tube throughout withconnection to all heating equipment.
Isolate and drain down domestic water system and remove the old roof sited water tanks, hot water cylinder and associated pipe work to scrap.
Alteration of domestic water pipe work as appropriate to connect the new boiler unit to all services.
Installation of a new gas supply from the external gas meter position with connection to the new boiler.
Carry out local electrical works to enable power to the new boiler.
Fill and test system and install a suitable system inhibitor as required by the boiler manufacturer.
Commission boiler to finish.
But it's way more expensive!!
Have at least 2 or 3 others coming hopefully dsoon.
Any views on the first boiler?
Many thanks.0 -
I love the first quote! it's the 2nd at £4,484.00 ex VAT, which I don't like.!0

Pretty similar to a job we had done. Both in terms of work and cost. Ours was about £400 more. But we had a WB 37cdi, so quite a bit bigger boiler.
My advice would be to get a bigger boiler. Last thing you want is taps or a shower running cold because another tap is on....0 -
Not sure what trade you are in Jack but you cant get anything other than A rated anyway. Its now against the building regs to fit anything other than A. Unless you have special permission to fit non condensing. The only time you'll find a B rated boiler is from old stock and you cant register it.
Dont just rely on anyones quote/estimate, get some references with regards to their work.
Have you had the water pressure/flow checked to see if you are actually able to have a combi? If not make sure they check it or you'll end up with a lump of metal that cost a lot and doesn't perform!
Size of boiler isn't the only thing that denotes how many taps you can run at once. If you haven't got the incoming water pressure/flow then you can't open more than one tap anyway. If its a really good incoming mains pressure/flow then you maybe able to open two taps without it dribbling but you wont get anymore hot water than the boilers rated flow rate, unless you get a boiler with a primary store.
Getting a boiler thats too big is just a waste of money as you wont use the excess.
Have they quoted to upgrade your gas supply to the boiler position, is it big enough to run the correct gas pressure from boiler to meter?
As far as make of boiler is concerned, there is a lot of difference, there's a lot of preference from experience of certain makes, "re-branded" boilers are sometimes made to look the same but often have cheaper parts. The rule is you get what you pay for.
Worcester Bosch are good boilers but at the top of the expensive list, Remeha are cheaper and are trying to improve their share of the UK market, they're a quiet boiler (so quiet I get complaints the're not running) only complaint is they're a little complicated when you start messing with the controls as they're 3 buttons and digital read out thats confusing for fitters let alone the customer.
Its a matter of persoanl opinion but dont go cheap you wont save in the long run.0 -
Where are you based by the way as prices do vary depending upon region of the country?
Something to bear in mind with the first quote is the Powerflush required every 3 years.
Are they going to carry that out for you and what are they likely to charge?
Prices for a correctly carried out powerflush including flushing each individual radiator can range from £300 to £500 depending on who you go to.
If they charge you £300 every 3 years then thats another £900 to budget.
I also agree with unclebulgaria above, have they checked the mains water pressure as this is vitally important.
At the end of the day you do get what you pay for and cheapest is not always best.Competition Wins:

The inspector came and he ran ran the water from the downstairs tap. He did ask if we took baths or showers and he explained that baths would run slower than at the moment due to the water being heated up rather than coming from what we have at the moment- a big tank which heats up at night on economy 7 . As we are shower people, it doesn't seem to be a big problem.
It's always possible that I could ring the company and ask them to quote me for a slightly more powerful boiler and see what they say.
The powerflush is quoted at £200 plus vat and the service at £65 plus vat.(though not sure how they can predict what they will charge in 3 yrs time!)

Just read your other post regarding their wanting the system powerflushed every 3 years? Have you got to pay for a powerflush every 3 years? If the system is kept serviced and maintained properly a powerflush that often is not needed!0
