Solar PV novice - Generation Meter Readings

You'll need to be patient but it may be a consolation to hear that our 2.2kWp system which was forecast to generate 1850 kWh per annum is just coming up to a year old and has generated over 2300kWh.. Take the long term view.
You're absolutely right, it's the long term I should be looking to. Being a complete novice to the solar energy thing I was just a bit concerned over the low yield on day 2 when I'd considered the conditions to be as good as/better than day 1. Better informed now that I've been able to compare with other installations thanks to the links posted here.Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm!0 -
Hi,
My first month of generation figures :
Estimate for Jan was 122 units and we've generated 160 units :j
I've seen sunny days generating 11units/day and dull overcast days generating 1 or 2 units/day.
We ended up with an average of 5.16 units/day over the 31days of Jan.0 -

Gosh that's really impressive isn't it? Can I be rude and ask where in the UK you are and how big your system is?Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm!0 -
Usky, with a 30 degree panel angle, you may not see the really impressive numbers for another month or 2, but the summer will be your's so smile!
(Sulking in Cardiff with 30 and 20 degree panels).
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Mart.
Hi Mart,
Yes I appreciate the angle of the roof (and the leaning towards the east) have an impact for me generation wise; it will be interesting for me to see how things change over the year and I'm keeping a record accordingly. Your 20 degree panels must really soak up the sunlight in the summer months.Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm!0 -

Hi Usky, forgot to say, ESE, so always a little less than folk like you.
Don't know about the summer yet, as 2.4kWp 30 deg went in on 9/8/11 and the 1.2kWp 20deg went in 2 weeks later as I had to have some wrought iron brackets made, and the bod got ill - I replaced a 3.5m x 0.8m canopy with two panels 3.3m x 1m. Works very well so far.
Interestingly, at the start (August) the little one was approx 50% of the big one, as you'd expect. By Dec, it was down to about 30%. I'm hoping from May to July it'll exceed 50%.
Still learning - aren't we all?

optimum roof tilt º for high summer doesn't mean optimum over the year output, as discussed elsewhere.0

I guess there's some benefit to everything being built on a grid system like they do in some countries - not aesthetically pretty perhaps, but it makes roof alignment a doddle.
Are you keeping an ongoing record of your output? I've signed up with pv output, but until I've got my Owl monitor in place it's all a bit meaningless really.
We never stop learning thank goodness.Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm!0 -
