I think the OP may have posted about this "friend" over on the house-buying and renting forum who has bailed, possibly to their parent's home leaving the OP to pay all of the rent on their own..

And there is another one on Debt free wannabee.

  • Thank you for your most valuable and informative post. I'm sure the OP will find it most enlightening and useful.

OP: do you want to pop back and let us know the exact circs so some of us could advise further? The rest may carry on being superfluous. You could consider blocking them in future to save time scrolling on by.

    hello b and t

some good news! the ll allowed us to end the contract i am now writing from my new house wooo!!

the ex friend posted back keys and a note saying they no longer want to live at the flat.

so as of tomorrow i no longer am responsible for that flat!!!! thank you for your advice over that matter!

but it turns out that a dd was set up from my bank account on the 13th of january to pay a electric supplier. i didnt set this up! and rather worrying this isnt the company that was suppliying electric to the flat when we moved in...... :s

so my original question is the water and electric bills where in ex friends name turns out that ex friend hasnt paid these bills since we moved in 2/12/11 would i have to pay these bills? and if i didnt pay would i get a ccj ect?

i have been paying the sky which is fine im happy to pay all of it and i will be able to transfer it to my new home i think.

council tax was only for ex friend as i am a student so am excempt i have spoken to the council office and got that sorted they have put a chase on ex friend who they also suspect is at the mothers house.

    whats a girl to do!

    thank you b&t

You need to check your tenancy agreement about responsibility for the utility bills. You may well find that you are liable even though they are in your ex-friend's name. If you're not then count yourself lucky and make a point of choosing flatmates who are more responsible next time.

  • Water and electricity bills in someone else's name who is not as trustworthy or reliable as a stranger in the street can take care of themselves. She'll get a CCJ eventually, one hopes. but not you. If you cared a fig you could waste a stamp on her and tell her she needs to do something about them. I'm not sure I'd feel that charitable, frankly
