cold calls.

my partener has had the same sim number with orange for about 6 years, never had a problem with cold callers.

untill the begining of last week, when vodaphone called asking for a "same first name different last name" was told got the wrong number, then he proceeded to say he has a fantastic deal to offer migrating customers from different networks on contract, my partner cut him short told remove number and not to contact again he assured she wouldnt be bothered.

then not 2 days later vodaphone called again asking for the same name different surname as used reviously, person was told wrong numbe and no we dont want a contract phone, he then progressed to say he could offer a fantstic deal to pay and go custmers migrating was told like previously remove number DO NOT call again was assured like previously this wouldnt happen again.

she has recieved 2 more since, it becoming frustantingly difficult not to bite the lip anymore, and to make matters worse 3 has now jumped onto the number and has started calling and vodaphone called (was ignored) but left a answerphone message to contact xyz at vodaphone on xyz number this morning.

what can be done for to stop this, orange says theres nothing they can other than block incoming number or have to pay for a new number and not be put on the mailing list, wich orange were reminded she wasnt on any mailing list she opted to have the number kept private, wich they then said only a new sim or new number would cure it. this is right the last one was only just 10 mins ago while were trying to settle the kids and get them fed ready for bed.

    1. Register the number with Telephone Preference Service (TPS): http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/number_type.html
    2. When the company cold calls tell them to **** of and that you are registered with TPS.
    3. If they call again complain to TPS (http://complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/Consumer/) or to Information Commissioner ( I am receiving unwanted marketing calls on my telephone. What can I do about these? )
As a side note, I am pretty sure it was neither Vodafone, nor Three. It was some company desperate to sell you their contracts and to get commission.

It has been known for 'friends' to do a wind up involving provided the number to firms as an enquiry. As a joke, it stinks - but it isn't unknown!

As hinted at earlier in this thread, many of these cold calls are NOT from the networks. They are 3rd parties who lie about who they are.

My advice would be to say that you have just renewed your 24 month contract and would they mark their records accordingly.

Or, of course, you could have lots of fun. Look up "how to deal with cold callers" on Google!
  • Some phones have apps to block numbers. I have one on my BB, if I get any calls like that I cut them off click a button and theyre added to a 'blacklist' If they call back they hear the phone ringing once then clicks off, it doesnt actually ring on the handset.

If only BT did something similar!!

I once got hold of someone pretty senior at Orange and didn't mince my words in any way before reporting them to TPS over cold calls and although no action was taken, TPS replied with a copy of a letter from Orange strongly denying that the cold caller was a legit agent of theirs.

However, I have to say that the number of cold calls went right down for a good couple of years after.
