Tesco direct price check a joke!

As Tesco continues to loose it’s way, a recent Which investigation found that their price check is a bit of a joke. Take the Sony KDL32CX523 TV as an example, Tesco shows it for £399.

Yet Amazon and Dixons do it for £329. In fact they found that on tv’s Tesco was always beaten by other retailers. Also when you click on the “price check” icon, Tesco shows you the prices at other shops and whether it matches them or is the same or is cheaper(which is rare). Yet they will only compare against the likes of Amazon or Dixons when it suits them i.e matches their price or if it doesn’t it will remove the two shops from the list and use Homebase, I mean really who buys a tv from Homebase.

They also have the nerve to compare with John Lewis and say that their price matches, yet John Lewis offer a 5 year guarantee for exactly the same price £399, where Tesco would charge £139 on top of the selling price of £399. So why would you under any circumstance buy a branded tv from Tesco Direct. If you want a bricks and mortar shop even then it is beaten by hundreds of independent or price matched with free guarantees thrown in from John Lewis.

The fact remains why buy a branded tv from tesco direct if you can use the internet, seems plain daft, oh yeah they will also charge you £5 to deliver it unlike others!!

Sir Terry any chance of a comeback!!

The price check feature is a marketing tool, not a consumer aid and should be treated as such. No shop with any sense will advertise that they are selling a product at a higher price than a competitor and Tesco are no exception - worth bearing this in mind with all store-provided comparisons.

Why do people seem to forget what business is actually about?

It's about making money. It's not about making sure you get the best deal. If they could charge more and still get customers they would.

If i was going to buy a big TV etc. I would do the price check myself.

I would use sites like reevoo etc and probably check there website for offers & discount codes.
May take a little time but I get a good deal.

Price check is more useful for grocery side when they compare asda, js etc

WOW I'm utterly flabbergasted about the responses on here. The point is it's an out and out lie. Not a marketing thing that's a bit devious or gives you warm fuzzy feelings for one brand over another.

MSEers may be savvy and rightly disbelieve our beloved Tesco friends but their marketing absolutely says to the casual reader "we checked other prices so you don't have to, and we're cheapest". It's a complete fabrication and absolutely needs to be stopped.

In addition of course, you could further boycott tesco more than you do now, for trying to take you for a mug.

The only mugs are those that believe any company that claims to be the cheapest for any product.
