If someone offered you a new kitchen for free...

...but you would not have any say in the design or layout, would you take it, or would you rather wait until you could afford your own choice of new kitchen?

so it's not really free then?!
if someone said to me, here's a free kitchen - I would take it as i could then keep saving for a new kitchen in case i didn't like it, and the new (free) one would tide me over.
If someone said, we have a shared bank account and live in the same house so i'm going to get a new kitchen and you have no input - I wouldn't be up for that!

Design it, and put in the carcasses. Leave the choice of doors, worktops and taps etc to her, or suffer the consequences for years...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I wouldn't even risk putting the carcasses in.
  • No way! Layout is probably the single most important design feature of any kitchen!!

Then get her to agree that 'in theory' for a install at some indeterminate future date...

You've pretty much all confirmed what I thought! I'd hate not to have a say in my own kitchen, I'm not sure whether it'd be worse to live with my own crappy kitchen, or have to live with a new one that's not to my taste, which I can't change for years for fear of offending anyone!
