Monthly v Weekly pay which is the norm?

The old rule of thumb was that white collar g0t paid monthly, and blue collar got paid weekly.
Nowadays, it's more along the lines of "professional" careers pay montly, and manual or temp jobs pay weekly.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

For small cash based businesses (e.g. low value retail) the most cost effective thing to do is pay staff in cash. This is because the alternative of paying money into the bank and then transferring it out again incurs bank charges both inbound and outbound. Obviously you don't want large piles of cash building up so it makes sense to pay weekly.
Alternatively if a business doesn't deal with much cash and therefore has to pay staff from the bank account it makes sense to reduce the number of transfers out of the bank as most banks charge per transaction. Therefore monthly payments make sense.
Of course there are other factors such as payroll processing costs and what is best for cash flow (paying monthly gives you breathing space with cashflow but if you get behind it will be a big chunk to suddenly find) so different businesses will have different priorities.0 -
I would agree with others that minimum wage or near to that roles are more often weekly and higher pay roles tend to be monthly.
That said some contractors I work with are paid weekly even though they are on 6 figure salaries0 -

OH works for Royal Mail and he gets paid weekly every Friday.
I get monthly paid in the NHS but the last time I got paid weekly was when I was temping at Capital One - and interestingly when I worked at M&S I got paid weekly when I was temping but switched to monthly when I went perm. It makes things easier that OH is paid weekly so we can sort out the bills/sopping etc but I couldnt go back to being weekly paid!!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
The split I've seen is Agency and Manufacturing - weekly, retail - 4 weekly, office and sales roles - monthly.
In our office the office and management get paid monthly but the factory workers get paid weekly as its easier to work on the overtime/absences.0 -
The last time I was paid weekly was when I worked for a supermarket. All my jobs since have been paid monthly, eg on the last friday of the month or on the 28th (or previous working day).0

That seems to be the norm in Australia, I was looking for jobs there many years ago and all the salaries were quoted seemed too high to be weekly but too low to be monthly, couldn't work it out till someone explained people get paid fortnightly there! My boys are paid fortnightly!0
