Monthly v Weekly pay which is the norm?

I've had about 6 jobs in my life, all have been paid weekly, but I get the impression weekly isn't the norm, I've had emails this weekend titled "Payday Sale" for example.

Interesting question. I wonder which really is more usual these days?
I think weekly pay is now pretty much restricted to manual worker type jobs, and only with some small employers? Are there any big firms still paying weekly for factory workers etc, as they used to?Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I come across both on a regular basis and Ive always accepted that it just varies from company to company, but im sure there an accounting related reason for this...any accountants reading this....?To have integrity means that you don't agree with everyone you meet, nor do you succumb to pressure to be something that is in direct conflict with your core ethics.0

4weekly, 13 times a year is also used by employers.0

Since I moved from agency work about 15 years ago it has always been monthly, ususally last working day or fixed such as 25th. Apart from, as above every 4th Thursday so 13 times a year (large drinks company).0

From my experience permanent jobs tend to be monthly (but also possibly 4 weekly) and temporary (agency) jobs tend to be weekly.0

The only jobs I've had that paid weekly were either part time, casual jobs (working in a cafe, call centre, helping at a local shop for a few weeks that a neighbour owned) or via an agency (so contracting, the same type of unskilled work though).
I haven't been paid weekly in about 15 years - I used to prefer it as I found it easier for budgeting purposes. I suppose now that I rely on Direct Debits (monthly) to pay bills it might be more of a hassle than it used to be, but I did find the change to monthly pay quite traumatic for a while back then

I've never worked anywhere that paid weekly. There is less work required to pay people monthly so I imagine most employers would prefer this method.0

Any job i've had has been quite low paid. So perhaps min wage jobs are paid weekly.0

Many agency workers get paid weekly, but those who are employed direct by the company normally get paid monthly as this is cheaper for the company. It took quite an adjustment to get used to be paid monthly but i got used to it.0

Ive always been paid monthly, including when I worked on the tills at Sains as a teenager, apart from when I did some temping work this year, and that was weekly. I dont know anyone else who gets paid weekly. Seems like it would be a lot of hassle for companies to do.0
