  • Yay am soooooooooooooo happy :j:j- just made my very first batch of butter from double cream (thanks Mothership:A) and it is delicious! Can't wait to make some more - just need to go to SM near closing time or late at night and wait for them to reduce the cream, and then pounce:rotfl:

Not sure how the month is going tbh, as am in the process of going from one method of paying to another, and also started 2nd purse challenge all in the same month, so until I balance the books won't know how I've done. Looks okay tho, I think - just keeping fingers crossed.:D

    Happy Sunday everyone

  • After spending slightly over for the past 2 weeks, I left myself £70 for the last 2 weeks of feb (payday 25th). Total spend in ald* today of £34.61, including a few treats like bbq ribs for DH (that I could have done, but he likes those ones) and I let the girls choose some sweets as well. I also need garlic but it seemed quite expensive at 79p for 3 little bulbs, so I nipped round the corner to a little ethnic supermarket and got 8 big bulbs for 99p:). that takes me to 60p over, but I reckon I can cut back on next week and be under budget :j. not bad seeing as i lowered my budget by £20;).

oh, and I know you might wonder who could possibly get through that much garlic...we all love it, mil often tells me i stink:p. We easily get through 3 or more bulbs a week, and they keep fine in the garage.

Now I'm off to rummage through the bin, as DH has been tidying up while I was shopping and he's thrown away the last of the onions that he said were starting to turn. I'll peel and slice them and bag them up for the freezer, he'll never know:cool:

  • Afternoon all. i would just like to thank eveyone for the recipe list at the front of the challenge. quite a few have caught my eye and i will be cooking them soon. i normally bake on a sunday whilst the big oven is on with the roast. we mistakenly invested in a range cooker a few years ago. great for cooking lots of things at once. not so great when small child says just one waffle and 3 chicken dippers for tea please mum. have bought a mini oven to cover little meals during week. the weetabix brownies and twinks were fantastic. they went down really well with everyone. thanks to who posted them. the brownies using weetabix has a base brilliant idea. i nearly always have the stuff in to make them and wont be buying cereal bars again. small child rarley eats sandwhiches and i pop one into his lunch box at school. looking forward to next months challenge.

Hi all and welcome to the newbies.
I have been very good and refused to go anywhere near a shop. On the other hand, DH went shopping with DD and bought stuff we didn't really need, again! So that's £6.55 added to my spend total. I know he thinks he's being helpful but . He keeps ruining my nsd's. :(
Anyway, he got some Ch!cago T0wn pizzas for 99p a box of 2, a pack of 6 faggots, 89p, which is a great price, a box of M's yeast (8) 79p plus a few other things, all from Mr M. I suppose he didn't do too badly after all. :).
    Hugs to everyone.

  • I do sort of, because I make individual lasagne in ramekin dishes (just me eating them) and to make the sheets a bit more workable to fit in the dishes I lay a couple of sheets in a large dish pour over boiling water and leave them to soak in the water while I prepare the sauce. I them drain and pat dry with kitchen roll before cutting in half, which fits the dish nicely.

    Hi

Just catching up on the thread and saw this, which I am definitely going to try doing, as at the minute I just snap the lasagne sheets to try and make them fit, and they inevitably break in totally the wrong place :( so this sounds like a fab idea, thanks. Will catch up on my totals soon. x
  • Hello All ....Hugs and welcome to everyone who needs (or wants) them! Just catching up - which takes a while. Only updating spends at the end of each spending week - different each month, but think it's going ok. Lots of whoopsies this pm from Horrorsons (love that too ;)) Still haven't been very good at planning - but meals often determined by whoopsie purchases and I'm not wasting anything so guess it doesn't matter too much. Well done all of you, and thanks for the constant inspiration. x

Last week I posted that I would just be doing a small shop, but DH decided to come with me and we ended up with quite a trolley full........

This always happens to me too!

Just returned from our 2nd 24 mile round trip to collect the rest of my prescription from B**ts as they had not ordered last week due to the snow. They tried to say that the remaining items had still not come. I suggested that the idea they had existed a whole week without HRT, contraception and asthma inhalers was absurd and would have made the national news - they are three of the most common items dispensed. Then they said the manufacturer could not supply my inhaler so I asked them to check if they had the double dose x half the number of actuations as I could take that instead and use it just in the mornings. Lots of quiet talk and rummaging and they found the right one. No contraception and they tried to give me just one intead of the other 2 months of HRT they owe. That is the third time it has gone wrong there in the last few months. Not impressed and I feel a letter coming on. Bought 2 OB shower gels like Original Sour*e but for £1 instead of £2.12 each and 2 Pear's soap @ 60p each.

Also did a quick Sainsbob run as it is next door and stuck to my list except for more cat food (figured 2x12 for £5 was better than driving the extra several miles to the Al** for theirs which would have come with miserable husband thrown in for no extra charge) as my Amazing order isn't now due until Wed. Oh yes and some chocolate literally jumped into the trolley with 2 bottles of chocolate milk (on offer). Didn't invest the extra £23 to get £10 off so £45.19 it was. Separate spend of £10.13 on DH's Nizor*l shampoo but not on this budget.

Slow roasted belly of pork tonight, with roast potatoes and veg. Sig up to date.

Welcome all Newbies, :Tthere are some awesome people on here who seem to live on nothing and loads to learn. One of you just posted that you had just made butter - not sure if you saw last month's thread where it was stressed that you must wash it under cold water once made, to stop it going rancid . HTH :) Stay warm everyone

  • I have a spend to report!
I have also spent money on a Valentines meal, but I have not included it in my budget as its a "special occasion" and have a separate budget for those.
So, £4.85 on whoopsies; smoked salmon fillets, 2Kg pack chicken pieces (which has been split into 3 and put into the freezer), liver for a recipe tomorrow, 2 pasties, some olives, fish pie mix and choccie biscuits for lunch boxes.
