i've only been doing the GC for a couple of months but for the first time ever i will not be in my overdraft at the end of the month which is the first time in years and that's even after buying dd's ipod touch for her birthday, I dread to think what i was actually spending before i started this.

It makes you feel really good, when you can see an actual difference, doesn't it?! I took a lot longer than you to get to that stage, so well done :T
Frugal, if you have a farmf**ds near you then they have butter at buy 2 for £1 EACH - sorry not sure of the price if you only buy one tho. Its really nice too

I can't wait for our FF to open! It's being built literally round the corner from me. While that's a good thing, it could also turn out to be a disaster if I'm not careful!
Tomorrow night we are having a Jamie Oliver Pork, parsnip, pear, potato and rosemary dish. It's very easy, chop it up and chuck it in the oven.

Happy pancake day one and all xx

That's my favourite kind of meal! The one where you don't have to look after it, it just cooks itself! Yours sounds lush too.
Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • Happy pancake day folks!

Spent just over £5 in Mr T today - bought lunch, eggs for pancakes and resisted the yellow stickers.

Thanks to you guys I'm much more aware of how much things cost. Before mse, I would have grabbed the little pack of beef stir-fry strips and thought because the ys said reduced to £2.99 I was getting a bargain..... Today I looked at it and thought, thats only 50p off - if it was £2.99 on a normal sticker would I buy it? And the answer was no! I now know what I have in stock, have a meal plan until the end of the week and am learning to shop around for better prices!! :money:

Thanks again for all the support - can't wait to get started with my first GC on the 23rd!!:j

Hi PG, look out for the money off coupons that come through your door too. Not sure if it's the same everywhere but we get a pile of them every month (£2.50 off a £25 shop, £5 off a £50 shop and £10 off a £100 shop) so hopefully you should get them too:j:j:j

Been MIA all week as I have been reading a long thread on the DFW Diary board that has had me hooked.:o I have still been keeping a track of spends and am declaring at £479.43 against a budget of £400 for the last 5 weeks as my new month starts tomorrow.

Although I am over budget I am really pleased with my total as, even including the £36 I spent on stocking up on a nappy offer at C0stco, I spent an average of £95/week which is a lot less than I have been spending over the last few months.:) Ald1 is my new favourite shop, it's saving me a fortune:)

I think I may be getting back in the swing of OS but I still have a long way to go. I still buy too much, still waste a bit and don't cook enough from scratch. I also spend loads in the first 2 weeks and then struggle in the last 2 or 3.

Next month I am going to take my weekly cash allowance out of the bank and put it in a seperate purse and see if this will stop me going bonkers at the beginning of the month. Not sure yet what the budget will be, I keep setting my budget too low, I set it at whatI want to be spending not at what I can realisticly can achieve based on what we want to eat/drink and what I can achieve in the time I have available.

Will pop in tomorrow to post my March budget and catch up with the last few pages of the thread.

  • Can I just ask what does MIA stand for? Have seen it many times, have racked my brain to see what it means, but no, still don't know:rotfl::rotfl:

    Another NSD here.
We had the last of the mushroom tart from the freezer with roast potatoes/cauli/carrot and swede. The colors are not good in my photos - light not very bright above the table - my tart looks black in the photo but it wasn't!

Beef bones (free!) coming VERY slowly to a simmer on hob and in SC to make stock. So big they won't fit completely, even in my huge pan, and some are sticking out of the top! Never made beef stock before, how OS is that?!

Helenjelly, happy to just update my sig, thanks for all your work, much appreciated.

    Gnight all!
