No NSD again for me today :(

I put my dog class money out ready last night so was all set to spend nothing today, then bumped in to the ex and my old dog. Got all emotional over seeing my old dog (couldn't give a monkeys about the ex!) and so my dog was really naughty at his class and caused absolute mayhem! Now I have ordered a massive take away, to 'cheer myself up' !!

I seriously need to lock away any cash and my cash card when I am low.

    This is getting silly!!

Any advice on how to stop myself slipping even further? Can see myself reverting back to my spendy ways which is NOT a good thing!

Well the fact that you are recognising behaviour or triggers that causes you to spend is a big step forward so pat on the back for that firstly :T I'm no professionl (errr...ok, you all knew that :p) but have you tried perhaps writing down triggers that make you spend - perhaps you could keep a list somewhere to help read it and remind yourself before you're about to spend - how about a little card kept in your purse? I think different things work for different people, so you could also try writing down say 5 - 10 things that make you happy and keep those with your list of 'spend triggers'? There was a woman on Spendaholics once, she earned decent money and wasn't really in debt but kept spending for the sake of it. She wanted a house in Tobago so they put little pics of Tobago in her purse, on the fridge and a big screensaver on her computer - so everytime she thought about spending, she saw what she could be putting her money towards instead - it really helped her.

Lastly (I'm waffling now) would it work for you if you allowed yourself a little treat once a week if you set yourself a target of not spending because you're down on other days - nothing fancy but perhaps a nice cake from your fav bakers, a coffee out, some nice bubble bath or something similar? You could work on a weekly treat, then perhaps move to something fortnightly and eventually perhaps wean yourself to monthly? Just an idea.

Now, tell my to bog off if all my thoughts are pants :o

Please don't beat yourself up.It happens to us all. We're not robots after all.(((hugs)))

Maybe you could leave your card at home when you go out. Also what about just taking the money you need?

Could you have a 'treats' fund to use for a take-away,a magazine or a coffee,a trip to the cinema, whatever you fancy. It might take the guilt out of having a splurge now and again.

    Take care x

They are good ideas, thanks Kerri

I don't really have anything in particular that I am saving for, so I might write a list of 5 things I like doing or something (free/cheap things) and put that on the other side of my list of triggers. Then if I feel like spending I can pick something off my list of 'treats' to do instead :)

That would be a good idea marmite,

If I had a 'fund' I could use then at least my splurges are budgeted for!!

Another one who thinks a treat pot works, i round up grocery spends to the nearest pound & stick the difference in mine, so it is all budgeted for money before i spend it.

I also never tell myself no, i always work on the "i'll think about it for half an hour" basis, then go & do something else for that time (bath, reading a book, pottering on here) & 9 times out of 10 i've changed my mind & don't want whatever i was going to spend money on.

  • Good luck tomorrow Jinty, i'll be keeping my fingers crossed that supervisor listens & is reasonable!

Butti - good luck with your lodger hunt!!

Not one for me today, no chance to get groceries yesterday with being back at the house, so had to nip out & do it today as there were a few bits i really needed.

Back on the wagon tomorrow though!!
