It's a split floor masionette just off ground level and that glass door is on the top floor (3 storey) and leads onto a balcony so it is safe and I can't remove it at all.

Would it be OK to put blinds up and screw into the plastic / pvc frame as thats the only way it can really go?

When putting up any pole - think about where the fixings are and how far you'd want to move any curtains in each direction.... so that once it's up you don't go to pull the curtain to one side or the other and realise the rings won't go past the wall fixing, It's that kind of daft detail you'll only spot once the workman's gone and you go to pull it the first time. . . and they won't have noticed, they'll just follow instructions.

Screw blinds into the ceiling rather than the upvc.

If they do this, put a couple of the rings the other side of the bracket :D

I would put a long venetian blind on the door, no curtains -and the same blinds on the windows just to the sill. I don't think curtains are definitely needed but you could get curtains just for the window also to the sill, just to dress the window not necessarily to close. Wooden blinds with slats at 50cm wide would look good - white wooden blinds look good in bedrooms. I would tend to have all the blinds down all the time but with slats open - just tilt for privacy. You may be worried about having blinds down all the time taking out the light - I do this and it is fine. Any blind, roller, Roman or Venetian gather at the top which blocks out more light, so having Venetian down all the time with slats open works as well. As you on a budget admitedly you will have to pay out for blinds but you would save on buying curtains or would be cheap as don't need to be very full if you are not going to draw. You get some good deals on the net for custom made blinds, Blinds2Go are worth a look. Google - you can find some cheap deals.

Net curtains for daytime privacy and light. Either blackout blinds (Wilko are quite good. Cut them to size), or curtains at night. Not blinds and curtains.

So below there is a long door. I don't want to get one long curtain to go the entire way across.

Would I just buy a long curtain for the door, and directly next to it have a shorter one?
For the French Door, you may do either

    or French Door Curtains french-door-curtains.jpg

and for the windows Blinds or Roman Blinds or Curtains

The Roman Blinds are elegant, and work cheaper. You may buy the kit and choose the fabric. Pastel colours would work fine and should not worry short with Long.
