Although changing banks can be a hassle, I would like to go somewhere else.
Anyone care to recommend me a bank ?
I left Natwest to go to First Direct - best decision I EVER made!
(AFter NW sold me on the telephone banking concept, then when I needed to extend my overdraft for a couple of weeks told me that my account info was in the post. My branch couldn't deal with me as I'd been transferred to the 'telephone branch' and the 'telephone branch said ' you've only just joined us so we can't give you an overdraft, and anyway your info is in the post and not reached us yet'!!)0 -

I work in banking myself (not for the Natwest) and I know exactly the sorts of comments that get made about customers......
Thanks for all the input and I was with HSBC (well it was the Midland Bank then) and seem to remember them being good.
I was also thinking about the new Metro Bank as I like the idea of supporting a new bank......if they are any good.
Anyone here with Metro Bank ?0 -
I know this is a relatively old thread but just wanted to say I agree with the OP. My experiences with Natwest are that they have poor comms and don't seem to follow the information they supply on both the website and their leaflets in branch. Says it all really when I make a complaint and get told it should be resolved within 2 weeks.. takes 2 weeks to get a letter saying they have received the complaint and will deal with it, and heard nothing again since. Within this time I have been able to set up a new account with Barclays, who have bent over backwards to help me.
So Natwest: Unhelpful Banking, indeed! Barclays: Thumbs up! lol0 -
The point being that Natwest are going out of their way to say how friendly they are. From my experience they were the least friendly of the 3 banks I had contact with.
Its the little things that make a difference sometimes.....no offer of a coffee, not following up on promised call backs x2, leaving a customer in a back office for 20 mins, poor attitude in general.
On the other hand, HSBC were top drawer and Lloyds pretty good too.
Your post isn't really helpful, is it?
NatWest are like most other banks - you get excellent, well run branches, and you get some badly run ones where the staff leave something to be desired. Like most businesses, a lot of this depends on the leadership displayed by the people in charge. If you're getting consistently crap service at a particular branch then chances are the manager may not be the best and you might want to try another one. I'd recommend this process whichever bank you're with.
I know HSBC offer coffee if you're waiting in their branches, which I think is a nice touch.0
