The other option is to use a Washball/ Ecoball. This takes no colour from any clothes.

How about trying Ecoballs? I prefer using them on non-whites as they preserve the colour of items really well. However, I find stuff does need the occasional wash with normal washing powder. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/77987

Sorry, Joyful beat me to it by minutes :)

Thanks all. Will try some ecoballs in future and see how we get on. I have put a load in and have put the clothes inside out, and have put the temperature down to 30, so will be interested to see if it makes a difference. His favourite, and newest, t shirt is in there, so there's a lot riding on it.

Just to clarify - he doesn't get his washing done for him per se. We have a communal laundry basket and we all "take turns" in putting a load in
  • If you all take turns, is there likely to be anyone who is maybe turning the temp on the machine up thinking it will be more effective or putting 'just a few' odd coloured items in with a wash or something like that? Are they fading like black to grey or just becoming duller?

I use Persil colour and no problems at all. My partner wears all black for work and I only wear bright colours but I do separate into similar colours when I do a wash ie. blacks on their own, blues and greens together, purples and pinks etc. I maintain this is why all our bedding is red, pink or purple, to go with my work shirts!

Using more powder than strictly necessary, could that be part of it?
