When does the bad luck end??

Well, you either laugh about it or cry. And I have done too much crying, time for a change!
Unfortunately katy721, I know what you mean
And who says men shouldn't cry?
I shall disappear and let people with valuable helpful posts to make offer you words of wisdom, as opposed to my hopeful words of comfort..0 -
Hi there,
I can't offer anything of immediate use to your situation but it did occur to me - you sound like you do a lot of mileage for work which I am assuming is visiting clients or different work sites within your working day. If this is the case, does your employer pay you anything for the mileage/travel costs? If not, do you claim your tax free mileage from HMRC? You can claim 40p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p per mile for each business miel therafter up to 5 April 2011, going up to 45p per mile this year and you can backdate 4 years. However, you will need to prove that it's business mileage and how many miles you do but even if you put in a low figure it is better than nothing. If you've not already claimed or if your employer pays less than 40p per mile, get form P87 for each tax year from HMRC (can download from the website) to make your claim - but it will take up to 6 weeks to get your money back so as I say not an immediate solutionEvery penny's a prisoner

Thanks jet9cat
Unfortunately I get paid 45p a mile for my business mileage so can't claim anything.
I actually make quite a bit each month through mileage, which I need because my wage doesn't cover all my outgoings without my expenses.
Therefore if I am car-less for too long I wont be doing miles, so cannot claim expenses, and will struggle to cover my bills.

Apparently the bad luck doesn't end just yet!
And again it's poo related
Took the dog out a nice long walk to do some thinking, and ended up having to duck behind a hedge to dodge muck spreading.
Should have known it was an omen to something worse!
Kitchen sink has just spewed stinking water all over my kitchen due to a blocked drain. Hoping it doesn't ruin anything as I may have avoided house insurance and the landlord wouldn't be too happy with a soggy kitchen.

Hmmm, I have the same problem, although it's a worry for me as I live in a 3rd floor flat.....

Sink sorted!!
You know, it feels so much better tackling a task and winning when you do it yourself

Well done! I recently learnt how to re-pressurise my combi-boiler myself from the helpful people on this forum without the need for taking a day off work to wait in for a council workman to do it in 5 minutes. Instead I did it myself but was so cautious it ended up taking me ALL DAY to do instead one Saturday!!! I also fixed a noisy flushing toilet - that sounded like a foghorn - myself with a simple 89p rubber washer with the help of people on here! No more waiting in for the council workman, yay! Just don't tell them I did it as I'm sure they'd disapproveI am apparently quite handy with a wire coat hanger and a bottle of bleach
Way to go katy721! Satisfying isn't it?!We've all got a bit of Kim and Aggie in us somewhere! :rotfl:

Katy, It never rains but it pours! Know the feeling every thing that can go wrong does, got home from a free holiday on Sunday and dryer has packed in for the umpteenth time and mother in law has broken the TV. Are there any friends of friends you can ask?
I'd offer my brother but its location dependent!0 -
Hey camuk81,
I guess at least with everything going wrong that can, I know where I stand!
The sink is sorted, still thinking about the car situation. TV just exploded about 10 minutes ago. I just found that funny though considering the day I have had already! Watching my little portable telly now and not letting it get me down.
