I was in the Santander branch and one of he staff pointed out he had just opened an Esaver without a problem earlier in the day .. to prove it he pretended to open another one in front of me.. he couldn't as it would not accept his email address !!
Opened this account for myself with no problem. When trying to do so for my boyfriend straight afterwards it wouldn't work. His email address has a - within it, where as mine doesnt. Apart from that, our email addresses are basically the same. In the end, I opened his with my email address as well. and it all worked fine. Very odd!0 -

If this is the same issue then I think if you already have an esaver with Santander and then try to upgrade to the next issue of esaver using the same email address as previous it won't allow you to online. I complained about this when I later called them to open the new issue over the phone and the call handler confirmed this was a known problem so just a possible heads up for anyone trying to upgrade esaver online. 'twas easy to do over the phone eventually especially using the free number.0 -
From my recent experience, Santander's computer systems are in a real mess at the moment. I tried to close an account by going into my local branch last Friday. Sorry, can't do it, computer says no. Come back another day (which I did today, and it finally said yes).
Their website's not much better. Want to open an e-Saver account? No problem - just login to Online Banking and click on "Savings" - except that for me there is no "Savings" to click on.
It's been a long time now since they absorbed B&B, Abbey and A&L and they really should have sorted out the mess by now.0 -

I did try a few email addresses but could not open another esaver on line. Your right! as it was easy to do over the phone providing you dont mind answering all the security questions.0 -
I was surprised by how easy it was to open, but thinking about it, I haven't even had to sign anything, is that normal? I don't have any other accounts with Santander. I filled a short form out online, and have received a few letters from them since with registration numbers etc.0

You will probably get a letter from them later asking for ID to be provided. This happened to us - we were transferred to Santander by Alliance and Leicester / Girobank and when we opened an esaver account we were asked for ID (only banked with them for 25 years plus!)0

I haven't had to provide any ID or sign anything, but have managed to transfer money in and out as if the account is fully open?0

i rang them up to get a bit more info about it being abroad at the moment, they explained that i would have to have a UK mobile handy because transactions would all need a text authorisation.....the message basically was come back to UK, set it up and go again.
About the 2.6% paid at the end of the year.....what is it based on?....say the holder is drip feeding in to the account throughout the year0 -
I'm not sure I understand the 2.6% bonus figure.
It states 3.1% **including** a 2.6% bonus.
Is this supposed to mean 0.5% interest (i.e. base rate) plus 2.6% bonus = 3.1% AER.
Or (unlikely I guess!) is it 3.1 + 2.6 = 5.7%?!0 -
It's 3.1% and the bonus of 2.6% is included within that 3.1%. Remember the 2.6% is just for a year though, so must switch after then0
