spud17 does you machine have a pci sata controller i believe it was that device which is said those drivers where for.
it updated the sound drivers ok, i didnt do the graphics, and as for the usb well my mouse just didnt work at all after the reboot.
one program to stay well clear off hence the reason i posted what i did.
On the other side a little update to the build. I still havent put it together. Still sitting in the lounge still in the boxes. LOL, seems everytime i go to do something, i end up having to do something else.
bought what i thought everything i needed, thought MB had a IDE connection, found out it didnt, realised i needed a sata dvd drive, to install the OS and drivers,
got the dvd sata locally, ok it cost £18.50 instead of £14, but then the cost of petrol getting to novatech would have set me back about £5, so i actually think that was a saving.
then thought DOH!! i need a drive to put it on the one i was going to use was ide 300gb, so i'm going to use my 1tb sata, but its got data on it, so i'm moving that to my 2tb drive, problem, my xp would not work when the drive was connected and it could see it. programs i clicked to start showed in task manager but nothing actually showing on screen, weird. something i did maybe as this was the recovery from the last backup i did.
So i did a recovery back again to june 2011 some reason i couldnt find the backups i did between june and november. So now i can connect and move the files across with no problems.
due to the single core 1.85ghz and 3gb memory its taking a long time to move the files. I'm hoping i get to build it on sunday.
I should have everything i need and my nephew whos in IT, is coming up to give me a hand, even though i could do it myself, considering i taught him everything i knew before he went to college and actually got qualified.
But he know more about windows 7 as i've been using xp since it came out and never thought about upgrading.0 -

No SATA of any description on the PC.
It's just a socket 478 (IIRC) with a 2.3 Celeron that I use for testing out 'stuff' I don't want to risk near anything half decent.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
finally built my new computer, YAY, but a few small problems, graphics drivers wont let me change screen resolution to 1440x900 which i'm use to. and no drivers for my wireless labtec mouse which worked perfectly under windows xp. and 3rd, now i got to install all my damn software again.
note: none of my addons for firefox 3.6.25 which i had installed on xp will work with firefox 10 which i have installed on 7.

update, can not for the life of me get my new desktop to show 1440x900 which is a perfect screen resolution for me.
i did find a fix yesterday but couldnt use it because under 1 it said something about 2d driver file path, and mine was completely blank.
today i downloaded the older 10.1 drivers and hey presto now it says something, problem is i cant find the link due to the fact i needed to speak with SSE this morning and of course firefox 10 doesnt work with them, they needed firefox 3 to be installed.0 -
update:
1 fix'ed the issue with my graphics yay
2 got around to connecting the WD 1.5tb to my new build and moved all the data from it onto my new 2tb external
3 re ran the WD data lifeguard and got the same error message, did the longer test as well.
4 decided to run HDD regenerator on the drive, currently got to 70% with 23+ bad sectors all over the place so partitioning the drive to remove the section wouldnt be possible.

I think the best bet it to RMA the drive when i can find the plastic box it came in. I got some bubble wrap so i can wrap the box up aswell.
then when i get a replacement to sell the drive and replace with a samsung.
seems i'm going to have a bad night, cause guess what i just did. Formatted the wrong damn drive. I selected my 2tb drive instead of the 1.5tb thats going bad, the same 2tb drive that I moved some of the data off the 1.5tb to. and the same 2tb that i moved the 1tb data from so i could use it to put the OS onto my new build.
Can anyone recommend a quick format recovery program. all the files are still there, but due to the quick format option i cant access them.
just trying a program i found using google but not sure if it will work.0 -

May do it, it needs a bit of reading. I've used it, but would rather not try to give help here for fear of giving wrong advice in this tricky situation.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
trying a partition recovery software, see if that works first. shouldnt take more than 45min to run the scan and hopefully it will find something,
whether or not it will do the in place recovery is another story.
Easeus data recovery wizard is the software demo, i first tried the middle option but it said 36hrs + and after reading the page
http://www.easeus.com/resource/windows-7-Unformat.htm thought i need a 2tb drive to put the recovered files onto.
they should really put this piece of info at the top this is for the middle option \/Following the above steps, you'll see the files and folders with original file tree, and then select the files to save to other place. You may save the files to another local disk partition, external hard disk, external USB drive and network sharing.
Remember that do not write file any more or save the files to the original place. Otherwise, the files may be covered and cannot be recovered again.0
