    Thank you
So am I best to send a letter with a copy of phone bill etc to them saying it was me who applied for the credit or just not reply at all?
If so what do I put in the letter.
No credit was ever issued by capital one but from reading forums and posts I am aware they are very proactive where fraud is concerned.
    Thanks

If you don't reply i'm sure they will keep pressing to see who applied for it.

You live with wife. Wife kicked you out so you moved in with daughter and needed a card for expenses bla bla bla. Wife allowed you back home so you never went through with card. It's not really fraud as you "Did" live there if you say you did. No one to prove otherwise.

Does you daughter receive benefits? If so you could put her in the cart with the relevent department such as council tax if she claimed that she lived on her own etc.

I'd go with the former and just say you no longer want the card.

Otherwise they might send further letters to your house which you wife may open (and question?)

Mobile Phone Bills and TV Licenses don't count as ID for any company let alone credit card companies. Unless you have bank account / driving license / fixed utilities registered to that address, you'll be unable to prove you live there.

  • Thanks for all your help, really appreciated. I have got the letter ready to go saying that due to domestic problems I moved in with my daughter an applied for the card. I've requested all
Correspondence to be sent c/o her address.
    Will wait and see now
One final question. The first letter came a week gone Saturday, how long do you think they will wait in between letters before sending another to my house?
    Thanks
  • Hello again,
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all who have helped so far, I just wish I could turn the clock back.
How long do you think they will wait in between sending the enquiry letters - I haven't posted the letter yet in case anyone had any further info or wisdom they could offer me. It will be going tomorrow though.
Just want everything to be ok, really worried about this, sorry
    Thanks in advance

Without inside knowledge we couldn't possibly tell you. Perhaps you could ring them up and discuss it over the phone with them? It could be that they don't send another, or they might place a mark on your file (possibly something like 'applied for credit, refused to provide id when asked').

Whatever it is, you need to communicate with them in one form or another.
  • Thanks again. I know it would be the most sensible but the times they are open (9-4 Monday to Friday) my wife is always around and I am never comfortable talking on the phone. I'll send the letter tomorrow first class, I've asked that my daughter is able to speak on behalf about this and that correspondence is sent c/o her address so hopefully things will turn out ok and I'll be able to sleep on a night again
    Sincere thanks for your advice
  • Hi all (again)
I just wanted to let you know that I told my wife what I had done (she hit the roof as expected), didn't tell her about the letter in the end as couldn't bring myself to do it, I never replied to the letter from capital one, every time I tried to post it I never did as I kept wanting to change it. Anyway, it's almost 5 weeks since that first letter came (the other accounts I have at my daughters - mobile phone, tv licence, 2 catalogues - all opened at my house but transferred) are being paid on time) so hopefully that's the end of the matter.
Word of warning to anyone who decides to help out their daughter like this - don't! You end up with sleepless nights, stressed and losing weight. -
If you do help, try and do it the right way.
I really hope another letter doesn't land on my doormat as things seem to have settled down nicely and we are back on track
    Keep your fingers crossed
Thank you to all who helped me in my time of need, you really are a great bunch
