    Hey RG

Like others have said you need to change your wage details sharpish so they get paid into your new bank account, otherwise if they get paid into your overdraft account the £200ish will get swallowed by the overdraft.

That would leave you with £200 less for the month. You then couldn't use your overdraft to get the £200 back as it would be borrowing money again which you shouldn't do on a DMP.

If your wages get paid into the new account, you will then make small payments according to your DMP into the overdraft account to eventually pay off the overdraft and close the account.

    So...

Change wage details to go into new account
Cancel direct debits coming out of overdraft account

    Hope that helps!

And if I have got any of it wrong, someone more experienced will correct me I'm sure :)

    Thanks :)

I have already cancelled the direct debits for my loan and credit cards, and the Co-Op man said he'd arrange transfer of my other direct debits :)

I just need the new bank account details to come tomorrow so I can phone up Payroll on Monday.

As for closing my current bank account, how can I when I technically "owe" them £198.99 in an overdraft?

  • If they can't do this for this pay day when get them to give you a cheque instead.

    Can they do this?
Forget the old account - it is now a debt account. You might not be over your OD limit, but an OD is still borrows money - ie, a debt.
In fact, write a letter to your old bank, requested that they close the account with immediate effect.

As in the above post, aren't I being extremely cheeky writing and requesting they close the account with immediate effect when I owe them money from the overdraft?

If you close the account you still have to pay back the overdraft, it is technically a loan just connected to your bank account.

Mine is £3000! and it's maxed out

So by closing the account (they will probably do this anyway when you enter the DMP as they know you won't be using that account) you can enter a payment plan into paying it back - which is what CCCS will set for you.

I know I have to pay back the overdraft, but if I go in and say I want to close the account, they'll see I have cancelled all my direct debits to the credit cards (I have an RBS Visa card :( ) and to the car loan, and see I have no salary being paid in anymore and will know I owe them nearly £200, so why will they let me close it? I do have my thick hat on tonight :(

Yeah me have scary debts :) but should be debt free by this time next year yay!

I'm pretty sure if you just wrote them a letter saying close my account they would have no other choice but to, especially if you say you're entering a DMP with CCCS.

And RBS should close your account once CCCS have been in contact with them, I am not 100% sure on that as I haven't been in a DMP but I think that's how it works, if no one replies tonight you can always call CCCS to clarify everything, it's what they are there for :) xxx
