  • Its a mistake so you need to send it back.
  • Don't send it back!!! Just put it into a savings account and then if they ask for it back in the next few months you can give it back. It's their fault and it's not your job to check that they are giving you the right amounts! Would you make a special trip back to the shop at your expense if you thought you'd be given too much change...you have to pay for the stamp and phone call to let them know! lol

  • As I have already said on this thread and elsewhere, the tools are here to reclaim your bank charges without resorting to dishonesty.

And yes I would go back to a shop with extra change and I have done.

This letter is in a different tone though than the previous saying they would refund bank charges, Its telling me it has the condition I cancel this claim now and the £250 is for a full and final settlement.

I'm lost its also a hand written cheque from a solicitor, usually bank cheques are printed are they not

If you bank a cheque that you know has been sent to you by mistake, there is a possibility of being accused of fraud.

I would send the cheque back.

  • It's just as likely you didn't realise it was an error as you committing fraud and they would have a hard time proving it!
It's up to you personally how you view it but I wouldn't have problem I'd give it back if they asked for it though, and I'm not a thief.
The letters offering you more theres no reason not to try it after all they still have a chance to change it before sending you a cheque.

  • RBS paid my claim within 3 weeks after I signed to accecpt there was no liability by them. One week later I receivred a letter from RBS stating "they do not agree with my claim, but as a gesture of good will, offered my a further payment again on condition no liability was owed by them". A big thanks to you Martin and the RBS

I think in light of the problems people are having to get their money and the superb site here and information we have at our fingertips from all these experts that we should be honest and hand any wrong payments back - it makes us look much more professional I think and shows we appreciated our correct monies back.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
