Just checked the T&C's and the deposit is non refundable and there's still £900 to pay plus the catering costs which we don't have the money for. I need to get a new dress due to the surgery.

Thinking about cancelling the wedding but I know if we do I don't know if my mum will be around for the next date :(

Would you consider a small wedding with you Mum present with the option of a blessing or suchlike at a later date?

If you do not mind cancelling the wedding then that might be the way to go, but a smaller wedding might be an option if you do want to get married with your mum there.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

were going reg office atm and have cut costs as much as poss. As the wedding is a very low key afair my mum is very much looking forward to the reception. We have had many rows as she doesn't like how much we've had to cut everything down to the bear bones and I would never hear the end of it if I didn't have the reception after the wedding.

My perefct day has just fallen apart in the last 2 weeks. I'm only going to be healed up for a couple of weeks before the wedding. We had planned to get married in 2013 but due to my mums health we have bought it forward.
  • The options I can think off if you really want to go ahead with the wedding:
Speak to the venue, explain the situation you are in, see if they can in any way reduce the cost (ie bulk the buffet out with sandwiches which are filling but cheaper to make), is it the kind of place that may let you take your own food? You could possibly cater for less people and let the guests know there will be a small buffet so they can eat before they come?

Or, lose the deposit and possibly £900, hire a hall or pub function room, rope in friends to do a buffet- my mum recently did an amazing buffet for a friends wedding and all the food in total cost about £150- and could have been less if they didnt have certain things.

The reception place and the caters are seperate and they to have a deposit. Both places are quite far from me and we won't have access to the reception venue till the evening before my wedding. None of my friends live near me and many will be coming from far to the wedding so were going to be very limited for help.

We need to find approx £2,000-£3,000 just to cover the hire for the reception and caters plus a few other bits and excluding my dress.

The caters are working to a certain number of heads and the deposts has been paid for that.

I really hope u find a solution, meanwhile this may sound daft but i have sold a ridiculous amount of unwanted stuff on ebay, kids clothes, toys, our clothes that are no longer needed or wanted and have made a ridiculous amount of cash.i know not everyone has unwanted stuff but if u do it really does help cash wise,i list items on free listing weekends so saves a bit of money.them odd £1 coins in a jar really do add up

Awww i feel terrible for you,our wedding fund has gone up and down and i felt rubbish after xmas,my OH is self employed and has lost work over xmas so had to use money out the wedding pot to pay the mortgage which he hasnt managed to put all of it back, but stay postive i know its hard but ever cloud has a silver lining.speak to your venue tell them your circumstances im sure they can sort something.ebay is a god send,i even got my jupon underskirt from there and my wedding shoes brand new.i know u dont want to lose your venue but enquire on some other venues tomorrow, our venue is tudor/victorian style and stunning you would have thought it cost way more.

I think the only way is to let the reception venue go :( I just can't see how I can make it work. The surgery on top really isn't helping matters either :(
