Yes that also occurred to me but thanks for the names you mentioned in the rest of your reply.

  • I have not been successful with dating sites at all, and difficulty meeting others. I belong to a tennis club and play at least 3 times pw in the summer, maybe once or twice in the winter. I find I am losing confidence in meeting people, although once warmed up quite sociable. I belong to a WI and I work full time. I am not old, 52 and have a very young outlook, even childish at times. I just dont know to do. I dont necessarily wish to date, just meet others who are single, in Norwich/Norfolk/Suffolk. Most of my friends are either married or in relationships

I think it may be true Op what you say that if you're willing to pay to join a dating site there'll be fewer scallies, but there have been lots of stories that some of these dating sites make up false profiles to get vulnerable people to keep paying their subscriptions.
Good luck finding a site OP, I cant recommend any but I know of someone whose profile is still being used to lure newcomers to a wellknown site, even tho she has left and asked for it to be removed - they can cos its in the T&Cs apparently

I read the SAGA ads (my mum gets it;)) and they are almost all too old for me...

mind you the bloke I hooked up with from an online dating site was TECHNICALLY younger than me but BEHAVED like an old man...

    (even wore a vest)

One of the problems my 60 year old friend found was that most women around his age acted so much older than their 60 years. His point was that though he might be 60 he didnt feel or act it and wasnt prepared to go on 'Muppet style' Saga Holidays or cruises that were mostly full of old farts who just wanted to do waltzes, play bingo, or listen to Vera Lynn.
So he went to Thailand and married a very lovely Thai lady of 40 years of age and they are as happy as pigs in poop.
He bought a camper and from Spring to Autumn are out across Europe as many times as they can.

*I* might be 61 but I certainly dont act or feel it.

  • well I am 52, and certainly dont act older, dont necessarily want to waltz, definitely not bingo, and dont mind Vera Lynn, but love all sorts of music Noel Gallagher, Goldfrap, Frank Sinatra! Trouble with men my age, seems they want to be with someone younger, possibly to boost their egos! Controversial to say I know!

I did the run of dating sites a while back. Men tend to want someone infinitely younger, thinner and better looking than them. The problem is - they'll most likely find it - especially if they have a generous wallet. ;)
To find someone on a par with me mentally and physically, I'd have to turn into a 'cougar' and seek out someone in his 40s.
But I'm 61 and would most likely be relegated to some crusty old pensioner in his 70s or 80s.
Which is why I think it's better for us to find a mate through routine activities. My hope was renewed after hearing about a couple who met in a supermarket queue. I've never gone shopping in dog haired leggings since! :D
