Good luck. I've only had surgery twice, but both times the fear in advance was far worse than the actual experience. Just take an ipod if you're going to be in for more than 24 hrs

NB the bedside tv units have a USB socket for use by patients. Useful for charging phones etc.

    Hi,

I had a lazy eye from when I was four or five, had nhs glasses bearing in mind this was the 60,s with the patch over one eye etc. Then I had the op was told I would never have to wear glasses again, which I didn't untill I got to my 40's I am now 54 and no signs of a squint since.

My son also had a lazy eye had two ops one on each eye before he was three. After all the check ups, eye tests etc now 23 shows no sign of ever having a squint.

Both my girls had a squint didn't need op but had the glasses, patches and now 17 & 20 don't need to wear glasses but was told they will later in life.
The op does work and they would not do it if you didn't need it. It is more of a worry that the op itself.

Good luck you will be fine and after a week or so you will see it was worth it.

    Regards,

    Angie
  • LIke others, I had ops whilst i was under five which worked cosmetically but unfortunately the sight in my eye is next to useless.

It hasnt affected my life though. what you have never had you never miss.

I noticed iin photographs in my mid thirties that my eye was going outwards especially when tired.

My optician encouraged me to have another op which i did.

Pleased with the results and would say go for it.

This will be my second bout of surgery so hopefully it was be successful this time. I first had the surgery back in 2007 however my eye was over corrected.

I'm feeling more positive about it this time as they said they will keep in till its almost perfect. Have said they will do most the surgery whilst im asleep. However they may need to the tweaking of my eyes whilst awake should they need to.

Ask for ice cream. You're never too old for ice cream in hospital.

(Ignore the fact that's usually for tonsillectomy. :rotfl:)

I've just read up on your Dr, he sounds as if he knows what he's doing. ;):D

My son had an op years ago, squint was never fully corrected but he scars really badly and it was suggested we settled for the way it was. It only looks more noticeable when he's tired and his glasses are off, otherwise it's ok.

    Good luck.

My 16yo DS is having this on 29th and they will be doing final adjustments when he is awake:eek:

Going in first thing in the morning, expect him to be discharged by lunchtime.

I know it seems a scary thought having my eyes played with whilst im awake. They have given an insight to how it will feel already. They put some drops into my eyes to make them numb and did abit of poking around. My eyes was really sore though for a few days after though. The first time I was in the hospital for 7 am I was home by 12 noon.

Good luck for thursday stclair. My DS's went sucessfully today. They left a suture in to adjust when he woke up. After 4 lots of numbing eye drops, he felt absolutely nothing.
