That's not totally correct. If the GP suspects lupus then they should refer the patient to a rheumatologist. Preferably one who specialises in lupus, the lupus unit at St Thomas's for example. Sometimes the symptoms are obvious but the blood tests don't show positive in which case it would be classed as sero-negative. It would also be important to check for other antibodies including those that cause APS (antiphospholipid syndrome) and SSA and SSB and so on for Sjogrens. It is not really a job for the GP.
There are many other conditions and as you say it isn't as simple as a blood test. I think it's more a process of elimination as there is a huge pool of auto immune conditions that can give similar and overlapping symptoms.
Hopefully the OP's daughter's gp will refer to a specialist and the wait won't be too long.0 -
Mutleythefrog is correct, meanwhile your daughter should contact the LA and update them to her current status and ask them to assess her on actual income while her ESA is reinstated. In practice, once they are informed, the LA usually wait a week or two as they know that ESA will be reinstated as soon as her appeal is received.
Problems arise when the LA receive an electronic message saying ESA has been stopped and they don't know why. They then suspend benefit and write to the claimant to establish the facts, its only when the claimant doesn't keep them informed that benefit is stopped.
She then needs to notify the landlord and negotiate paying the rent while her benefit is reinstated. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
Hi your daughter needs to ring housing and ask them to send a change of circumstances form, and get the form back to them asap.
This is what I had to do when it happened to me it will get reinstated then.
Best wishes

When I appealed my ESA decision, I sent a letter back explaining why I was appealing, with 4 different doctors notes (GP, 2 surgeons and a specialist) and also asked them continue payments until my hearing was heard, which they did. If she does this, it will give her time to sort her money problems out and also give her a better chance of winnng her case. I got no points originally, after my appeal, they said I would be able to continue to claim for at least 18 months, slightly different outcome.
I am so sorry you are getting some awful replies on here, you are obviously worried about your daughter and you don't need their small minded comments.
Good luck to you and your daughter in this battle, be prepared and you will win, I was and I did.

They understand the strain that disability can cause within the family, and do what they can to help the young people, instead of judging the family situation. Young carers don't need judgement, they need understanding, support, and sometimes a voice (such as asking school to understand their situation).
I dont think anyone is judging young carers, rather the parents who are expecting their children to care for them.0 -

That is the point! The lady I know is a close family friend, she is not in the wrong job and understands the needs of disabled, How ever when you get some fat woman who expects her 10 year old child to cook the evening meal, clean and tidy the home because she is depressed and can't find the energy to do it herself while she sits on her backside all day smoking and drinking there is something wrong!EVERYTIME YOU THANK MY POSTS A PUPPY DIES!

Hi there, i have SLE (lupus) in a severe form (poss need chemo etc), I have been on and off work for last few months. She could contact her nearest childrens centre, they could sort her out with a support worker, who would be a great help. Also homestart could get involved, they also are very helpful!!! RE benefits, she needs to get on to her doctor and request the ANA/DNA tests involved with Lupus, then she would have solid info for ESA. DLA may be worth applying for too. Feel free to PM me for any help RE lupus, its a nasty disease thats knocked me on my bottom at a young age. xxxxxThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0 -
Definitely get onto housing benefit tomorrow and tell them what is happening. Once that is reinstated, and it will be, she will feel less anxious and can start looking at the ESA appeal.0
