Hi,Just ordered a new PC very much like this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/338524-zoostorm-desktop-pc-7873-1050

It needs the operating sytem installing so have also ordered:http://www.ebuyer.com/259863-microsoft-windows-7-home-premium-w-sp1-licence-and-media-1-gfc-02050

My question is how easy is to install Windows & are there any pitfalls/issues to be aware of ?

Thanks

Not too difficult - turn on PC, put win 7/64 disk in drive and let the PC boot from the DVD. If too slow it may say there is no boot disk, just start again with the disk already in, if it still says the same, you'll need to go into BIOS (F2 or DEL key during boot) and change the boor sequence so that it boots from the DVD first,

Just follow instructions on the screen.

Once complete you will beed to run the drivers disk to install all system drivers. When compete just check the device manager in the control panel to make sure all is okay, no yellow/red marks or devices not known.

Recommend that you run windows updates first to check you have all the current upodates, and of course select and install yr antivirus.

NB you can go into the control panel/system and check you've got what you paid for, all memory recognised and that it says you have win 7/64 service pack 1.

    Good luck........
  • very easy - stick it in the drive and you're away, follow the instructions
    Friendly greeting!

If possible, download and save to disc as many of the anti virus and anti malware programmes you intend to use

As soon as Windows is installed, install the anti virus - malware programmes from the CD before connecting to the internet, then update them and run their scans.

    Use Windows update

Be a shame to get infected while downloading the anti virus though

Sentiment is right, but don't believe everything you read in the media. I don't believe if the OP restricted themselves initially to Windows Update, and the Avira, Avast, or AVG downloads that there is any real risk........but hey what do I know......

Nice article for 2004 I suppose, most adsl routers will stop that unless there is port forwarding already there and it allows uPnP and network access.

Ive done loads of fresh installs of XP and W7 with zero issues of being infected (I gave Vista a wide birth)

OP - my recommendation once you have security on and done most windows updates (I would recommend updating to Service Pack 1 at least), is to run BELARC and see if there are any downloads for your motherboard (As well as whats on windows update). Ive had computers that whilst 'work' and show no signs of needing drivers, ran better with the proper drivers (especially audio drivers)
