£1 National Express fares to over 30 destinations

the £1 funfares are released approximately 2-3 months prior to travel. Easter was available from last week. I booked xmas at the end of Sept. using quidco for 30p cashback (do two singles, not a return) brings this down to 70p each way.
Oddly, you may need to short your journey to trigger the funfare. For example. I go London-Stratford-Thetford-Norwich. London to Norwich is £1. But if i try and book any other option (eg, Stratford to Thetford) it's full price. If you're in the sticks with no funfare option (but yor stop is part of a bigger route) it may be worth booking the full route and just using your portion. (Though technically this may invalidate your booking, the drivers are usually very firendly and dont care.)0 -
Hi,
Just to let you know, this is not new. I have been using these funfares from National Express for a over a year now.
I manage to get my mum (who lives in London) to Cardiff (where i live) for £2 return. She comes up every wed and goes home Sat. She looks after my little ones when i am in work.
It has saved us a fortune. We used to use the Trains, trouble with that is the ticket is £24.40, but you have to be extremely lucky and early to get this priced ticket.
This coach is excellent service and money. I am just hoping that they will add Bridgend to the funfare route, save me going to cardiff twice a week (30 mile round trip).
Just in case it disappears from the home page of National Express, if you click on ways to save at the top right hand corner and then on Funfares.
As i said, this is not new and having my neighbour who works for national express, he told me they have no plans to scrap this.
The only draw back to it, is sometimes they dont have a enough people to justify running the coach, so you may end up being on another one at a later time. This has only happened once since i have been using it.:rotfl:

Fantastic I have just brought a return ticket from Milton keynes to portsmouth via london for just £4. The journey should ake just 4 and a half hours. That's only an hour more than driving. Normaly costs about £40 in petrol round trip.Over Draft £0
Christmas savings £50
Over payments this year £50
Monthly food budget for 4 £2000 -
What a great offer - I had no idea this existed!
Have just booked me and my mom a trip to London in mid March for £4 each (from birmingham)- now we've saved cash on travel we can treat ourselves to a nice lunch while we are there

I regularly use the funfare tickets for getting to London from Devon. The trick is to be flexible, you're more likely to get a £1 ticket if you need 1 ticket not 2 or more.
Though you must bear traffic in mind. I found we were stuck in traffic 50 metres from a tube station but the driver refused to let me just get off the bus. So I had to wait 45 mins before we arrived at Victoria just over 1 mile later!
My advice, if timing is important get a train. If you've time on your side and need it cheap, get the coach.0 -
Tried to book for 2 from Leeds - London but there seems to be only one £1 seat on each bus, no matter what time I select
(did one in firefox one in IE at the same time)
Guess its megabus for us then!0 -
i can do canterbury to london for a £1 in may. May try and book an overnight stay if i can0

I am also the one who regulary use funfare ticket since 2004. Sometimes, got £1, £3 or £5 per trip. It is tricky as someone already said. If you want to book more than one person, better to try to book one per each time. It might be better to use another computer to book. I managed to get £1 each for 5 people traveling in the same trip.
If you try to book too early (like 8 weeks in advance), you might not find any £1 ticket. But if you look arond 4-6 weeks in advance, you might easily get some £1.
The coach is very reliable for the travel time. I always leave Bristol in the morning to London and come back in the evening. No problem with my schedule on those days so far.0 -
Really, we should support Megabus as much as possible. It was they who started really cheap fares and NEx are just climbing on the bandwaggon for their services which leave around the Megabus times!"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

The poster above is incorrect.
Megabus started in March 2004, but NatEx had been putting Funfares on selected routes from £1 at least 6-9 months earlier!!
Just that in those days they were on few routes and only on off-peak journeys that no-one went on anyway!0
