You are wrong. All purchases require the password, however once you have put the password in it will remain signed in for a few minutes, enabling further purchases/downloads to be made without the password needing to be re-entered.

I thought a recent IoS upgrade even stopped that inthat once the immediate downlaod had been done it forgets the password.

I dont have kids so half remembered it being changed but not having the need for it didn't take it in fully.

That said Friends kid tend to know their parents passwords anyway...

Mine still remembers the password for a short time after a download, not sure how long this length of time is though:o

after downloading a game for my child, I always turn off the ipod touch and then put it back on, to stop the credit card from being active! if the child trys to download another game, a password is required for the credit card, if she wants another new game!

You could just change the setting so it always requires the password :)

Nope it still remembers. It would be very irritating if you had to renter it every time if you were buying a few things at once.

I'd like an option for it to remember the password forever, so I never have to retype it.
If someone steals my iPad, I would be more worried that they had stolen hundreds of pounds worth of iPad, if they then spent my remaining £14 iTunes credit it wouldn't really make much difference!

I don't have a credit or debit card linked to my iTunes account, it's cheaper to always use iTunes vouchers, as you can make sure you stock up on them when they are on offer!
