Can anybody help with a couple of pc matters?

I have just reconnected pc to original monitor ( after being plugged into the tv) and it's turned on normally.
Too early to tell if the sleep issue is fixed.
Now dare I now go and update the graphics driver or shall I leave well alone?
and do you still recommend I do this from your earlier post:
"First things first we should roll back the driver update - first a clean boot, then goto control panel then the device manager and expand the sounds tab, and then clcik on Reatek High Definition Audio, then click on the driver tab, then click on roll back driver. Reboot"0 -
One other thing looking at the spec I see that the PC has VGA & DVI video ports as well as hdmi - do you have there a cable that would connect the monitor other than the hdmi cable - just to check the cable itself? Beg, borrow, or steal?0

I would roll back the driver first, leave the graphics driver update for now - read the HP link I sent you earlier which describes problems HP are having with sleep mode and win 7. Also re my last post if you can get a different cable too, it would help to eliminate cable connection issues...0 -
It was the realtek driver that was installed, so that is the one that should be rolled back.
There might be another way to get back, but depends on whether you have system protection activated. If you go to programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore, it will tell you if there are restore points you can go back to, however I notice that many Win 7 systems have the protection turned off.
If you have protection on, you should be able to choose the point prior to when the driver was updated this morning - otherwise its just the roll back procedure.
Once you have done one of these, reboot read the HP URL I sent you and try the VGA screen as well
I have to go now but will be ack in a couiple of hours............0 -
The roll back driver option was greyed out so maybe it didn't update after all?
The driver date was 04/08/2009 and I bought the pc in the November so maybe it is as up to date as it could be? ( I've done a system restore now to be sure)
I'll go and read the link you gave now.
Edit.
Have now looked at the link. I don't think it quite fits with what my sleep problem is. That seems to be for when the pc comes out of sleep mode when you don't want it to.
My issue is a bit different. PC does stay in sleep mode until I need it again.
It comes to life again when I move the mouse but sometimes the monitor doesn't follow and stays in sleep mode. (However I didn't know about the F2 sleep button as an alternative to the moving of the mouse so have learnt something).
The sound issue is weird. I can play sound files in itunes no problem but then youtube clips ( or other) just play a second and then the sound stops. I've restarted the machine and so far, have tried several youtube clips and they are playing fine.0 -
Okay, does the VGA cable make any difference? I am thinking about the sleep/screen situation; the monitor audio won't work with just a VGA cable (traditionally use a sepate cable from the monitor to the back of the PC's green audio socket).............0

As both problems are intermittent, I am going to have to leave it for a few days and observe the sleep issue with vga cable and hdmi cable over several days with each.
Thanks very much for spending time thinking about these issues.
At least I've got my monitor back. This morning was a bit of a shock for a while!!0
