  • i know 2 people who took it. 1 person stopped but his since started again but while he was taking it he was very very short tempered and generally a miserable g*t and had quite a high appetite for a certain adult pastime iygwim.

the other one landed up sectioned after a suicide attempt. if you have any history of depression or mental illness then its not recommened to take this drug. the doctor who prescribed it didnt think to check his history or ask him. nearly cost him his life and luckily for him his mother is a nurse and she woke up hearing him vomiting following the overdose and managed to get an ambulance called just in time but he did break a police officers nose while he was fighting them when they were taking him to the hospital.

My FIL used it to stop smoking in his late 60's the only side effect he had was feeling slightly sick towards the time when you stop smoking on them, but I suppose thats how they work so would make sense.

Great on trying to give up smoking. There is a thread about e-cigs on here, which you might want to consider trying.

I've not tried Champix, sorry. But e-cigs stopped me smoking straight away.

I quit smoking (30 a day) using Champix and I haven't had a cigarette since. It definitely did the job, but I had really weird side effects - crazy vivid dreams, mood swings and paranoia.

The doctor told me that it was originally an anti-psychotic drug, but was found to be better at 'turning off' the addiction part of the brain. That might explain why it has such weird side-effects.

I had really good results (sfter the side-effects wore off) but you do have to be so careful that you tell your doctor everything, just in case.

OP - Maybe try Niquitin q lozengers. They worked for me and I used to smoke over 40 a day. The first tabet you suck does taste a bit tobbaco funny. After the first they just taste of mint. They work! I havent' had a cig in over 7 years.

I used Champix 2 years ago. I quit but the nausia in the mornings was very nasty .. 5 mins after taking the tablet I was literally gagging. Also the dreams were really weird .. I dreamt one night that my cat attacked a cow.It took a few minutes each morning to realise these were just dreams.
I felt slightly disorientated .. out of touch, but nothing could make me feel depressed. My Dad had a huge stroke , I dealt with that with no need for a fag but 3 months down the line I just threw in the towel and started smoking again. I did make the mistake of drinking one night while on these tablets and have no memory of that evening, apparently I was really agressive to my OH but fags just did absolutely nothing for me. I could sit with friends who smoked and not have an inkling for a ciggie.. they smelt truly horrible.
Coming off the tablets was also weird , TBH it was at least a month from the last tablet before I truly felt like my old self.
I will try them again .. I am b**** determined to quit this stupid addiction .

Why would you worry about the possible side effects of taking Champix when you know the effects of smoking and you carry on? Sorry, but it just doesn't make sense.

he had a further suicide attempt a month or so later and ended up in hospital again for a week or so. i no longer see or speak to this person though but from what i hear he isnt suicidal now but the depression and other mental health problems are still there.
