There are two options iirc. The family member puts you on their staff travel and you can get standby tickets. Taxes still apply, which makes the ticket more expensive than you think (although cheaper than regular tickets). The other option is Hotline tickets, which can be cheaper than regular tickets, especially near to travel time. I don't know if there's a set % off.

If it is a hotline ticket be aware that there are some restrictions. You can not MFU (use miles for upgrade) and you are unlikely to receive any offers of cheap upgrades for money from BA.
As a guide for a WT+ ticket costing £1,000 we got £150 knocked off
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • thanks folks - price just now is £570pp

I'll let you know what kind of discount I get
  • BA staff discount is usally quite good iirc.

However, be warned...we were flying to North Carolina I think & had to fly from Manchester>London>NC & due to us being on staff tickets (standby) we were minutes away from missing our London flights due to having to wait to board a flight in Manc.

I suppose it was our fault really as we could have travelled down the night before etc but just becareful as if you're standby, you may not get on the flight at all.

    Good luck!

Like trolleyrun said it depends if they put you on their travel list or are just buying you a discounted ticket where there is no set %tage.

My friend works for BA and she has told me prices she can get for me before discount wise, and Ive often found the same thing myself looking on expedia etc. Other times she can find better deals. Its totally random for each flight/destination. So will be interesting to see what you get.

However, for one friend who is on her travel list as they go on holidays together, they hardly pay anything and usually get upgraded :)
