I have been a Virgin.net broadband user for a few years but recently I have noticed that I am only getting marginally better than dial up speeds at peak times, at other times I can get the expected 1mpbs. Is anyone else having similar problems?
I have searched the net and noticed that other people are having a similar problem. After having over an hour long chat with there online help, having to repeat myself several times, I was told that I would have to call the premium online help line, which I don't think I should have to do. So I have finally decided to switch provider, can anyone please suggest I reliable broadband provider.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I too have been with VirginNet for some years and have been happy with both speed and service. However, foolishly I decided to upgrade from just broadband to Bundle 2 (up to 8Mbps!!) with free evening and weekend phone calls. Soon after, the speed seemed to decrease and on contacting them, I was told that my line could only manage up to 2Mbps:mad: and having carried out numerous speed tests, it seems that it rarely reaches even that! I wish I hadn't "upgraded" because now I'm tied in for 12 months:rolleyes: . Never had connection problems though...and it IS faster first thing in the morning!0

Hi
I have been having similar problems with virgin too. Ever since i "upgraded" to 8 meg! I get 1 meg at most, instead of the 2 meg I was getting.
I have just given my MAC to Vodafone. Anthing is better than my Virgin connection at the moment!
I know there is chea deals around but I would be more inclined to pay alittle bit more for a reliable service. Hopefully Vodafone will supply me with that

I too have been fed up with getting speeds less than dial up, tomorrow I start with NewNet.
http://www.newnet.co.uk/
I am on their light user scheme
£12.95 for 3Gb
You can have 12 GB for £17.95
I have done a lot of research in the forums at
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/
for speed and reliability and a caring customer services NewNet came out very good.0 -
I have been a Virgin broadband customer for about 18 months and have found the service to be very good but recently I've been getting some disconnections at peak times and then the service is restored after about 10 - 15 seconds. Annoying especially if you are tuned to a radio station or using VOIP! I'm on the £14.99 2M speed.0

i too am with virgin.net on option 2 8mb,only it was free with the virgin sim card offer,on an evening i get reduced speeds and disconnections for 20 secs.
i never had any problems with bb suppliers before in the past but if it wasn't free i would not stay with virgin .0 -
Started with Newnet last week and getting much better speeds. Their customer service is fantastic.
Good luck tomorrow Trisha0 -
Thank you Libra :-)
I changed over today very smoothly, managed by trial and error to configure OE with the email addresses, changed my login email from Virgin to a Newnet one.
Speed is no better at the moment, but I understand that there is a ten day re-training period for BT to set the speed, so I am not worried about that.
Last night I actually got 540kbps with Virgin, it was usually around 200kbps during the evening, Newnet hopefully should be better than that.0
