Where to take my OH for his forst holiday.

I love my holidays but the OH has had slim experience (Austria on a caoch twice when he was young and Wales by car for the last two years).
2012 is his deadline for going on a foreign holiday with me (as I'm fed up scooting off with friends when I have a OH as well).
I'm trying to think of where I can take him which matches the below requirments, and struggling, so if anyone has idea's that would be great.

- He doesn't like HOT (I do but willing to compromise). So we want somewhere nice and warm but not Hot lol (if that makes sense)
- It will be the first time he's gone on a plane, so I want to make it a reasonable length as I think it would be mean to fly him to America!
- He's not into Hot and therefor not a sun worshipper. We want somewhere where we can spend one day on the beach one day looking around on trips or doing something.
- Italy is off the cards as I owe my BF a holiday to Italy as I cancelled our due to doing my knee in so can't take him there before I go with her.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

The Canaries (prob. Gran Canaria or Tenerife) or Madeira would be a great choice. Neither are too hot and both have a good mix of things to do besides the beach.0

You don't say what time of year you want to go. If you mean in the summer then absolutely stay away from Madeira and the Canaries - they are way south and therefore very hot in the summer.
Anywhere in Southern Europe would be hot in summer. Although if you went to the mountains, you have the choice of heading to the coast for the day, or retreating to altitude for cooler temperatures. In which case you could fly into Nice and then go to one of the resorts in the nearby Alps.
I suppose Brittany or Normandy in France would suit you, though I've never been so not sure exactly what's there. The climate should be similar to Southern England.
Take a look at San Sebastian in northern spain or nearby Biarritz in France.
Pity you can't go to Italy, otherwise I'd suggest Molveno in the mountains, with day trips to Lake Garda, Austria, Verona or Venice. Not forgetting the Gardaland theme park.0 -
I'm pretty open on the time of year but like you said, depending on the time places will be hotter. Was thinking Aug/Sep ish
Thanks for your idea's. Will take a peak now.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
My wife had never been abroad before, so our first holiday was Florida, and we had a villa and flew first class (with XL airways it was 800 quid each!), even the hire car was a Jag convertible, (i've got more pics of the car than the wife) and it was fantastic, if your doing something for the first time, have a blast!0

I was going to suggest a Greek Island until I saw you were considering August - it's probably too hot then but late September might be ok.
Shortish flights and plenty of history and trips etc - great beaches too.0 -
What about a city break like NYC if you dont want to lie on a beach? And only a 6-7 hour flight. Although it would be really hot there in aug. Maybe you should go either later or earlier in the year to avoid really hot weather as most holiday places are going to be roasting then.0

Is it worst holiday or first holiday?0

First lol
Typed to fast.
I've been to NYC in september and that was find but don't think a 6/7 hour flight is very fair for his first time.
I do like greece. Been there before. I was actually contemplating Athens as an idea.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
What's your budget? That will majorly impact on what you decide!0

Sound like you want a holiday with variety, a little bit of this and a bit of that?
I would suggest a Cruise, choosing an itinerary that stops every day at a new port.0
