I have a Sony 25" CRT TV in my garage gym still working, bought for my playroom when I was 5! 17 years and still going strong :P

I have 2 TV's both over 19 years old. I think they are both Ferguson - one 26 inch 19 years old, one portable probably at least 25 years old. I don't reckon the newer TV's will last that long.

TV's work fine except lack of Scart sockets.
Just think of all those TV's/VCR's going into landfill and all the extra electricity being used with freeview boxes.

I'm quite happy with my analogue set up, don't feel the the need to go digital ( don't have to unitl 2012!).

Don't understand what the big problem is. All you need is a £25 freeview box. If the Tv doesn't have scart just make sure you get a freeview box with a built in modulator to connect it to the aerial input of your old tv set or connect it via a VCR scart (if available)

I'm not sure if previous post is directed at me but I haven't stated I have a problem. I was just pointing out how long my TV's have lasted and some equipment will be redundant when time comes eg VCR(lack of digi tuner).

Haven't bothered trying a freeview box yet as freeview site was saying I can't get it in this postcode and I reckoned setting up freeview box via VCR scart would mess up being able to set up timed VCR recordings which I use a lot.

It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, in fact it's the media that are making such a big fuss about it. When switchover happens there will be enough time and plenty of help and advice for people to choose what suits them. The practice of dumping old but still working TV sets is rather irresponsible, again caused by the hype that people need new sets. It's not even over yet since "HD" is around the corner and more equipment will end up on the scrapheap due to un-necessary "upgrades".

If you would like to try freeview, even if your postcode shows no coverage, you could ask people in your neighbourhood if they can receive it, or a local aerial installer can advise.

The Scart connection via the VCR should not interfere with the time settings, it just acts as an external source and allows you to record the freeview signal, or watch it.
