Do you know how many KwH you use in a year?
Unfortunately not.... we moved into this house in Aug 2011.
Once heating has gone off though (hopefully start of april like last year) I will base my useage for the rest of the year on what my useage was in aug last year which shouldn't be a million miles away (should it?) and put that total figure in and see what it says. Thanks for the advice.

have been informed that the DD amount is changed by comparing the last 2 submitted meter readings. It does NOT take into account any actual debit or credit on a customers account.

I could say I have it in writing that it is done the way you might expect, including consideration of previous annual consumption and also the current balance but who can say who is right, though perhaps what I have in writing from a team manager trumps anything said on the phone by a recently recruited adviser.:D

However I can look at my own figures and demonstrate that historically once accurate annual consumption assumptions have neither been updated to reflect the less severe winter, nor the customer readings I have submitted which demonstrate (for a number of reasons) approximately a 30% reduction over anticipated consumption based on last years figures.

Basically the Edf recalculation system and/or competency aspects of customer service (but not demeanour, or now phone answering, which are both good:)) is IME not fit for purpose.:(
  • Hi All,

Phoned EDF today and the advisor I spoke to confirmed there were issues with their system which they were looking into.

They have agreed to reduce my monthly direct debit to £85 instead of the £172.

Forgot to ask when my annual review period will be so I will confirm this later.

    Cheers

Whilst I understand that EDF want to build a credit on my account ...
    Whoa!

You are lending EDF money for free! No wonder they would like to get as much money out of you as possible.

EDF is not a bank. If you want to look ahead to future bills (and it's certainly a good idea to do so), put the money aside in a savings account.

That DD is outrageous and needs to be cut drastically.

  • I take your point. However if I provide meter readings religiously each month I presumed EDF would decrease my DD for me if our usage decreases (which it should, despite my wife wanting the heating on all the time!) I will give them another call though now. Thanks

What do you mean who can say who is right?

Ask for the credit back then and put it in your savings account. I imagine by saying this you have had a bill covering at least a part of winter so far and this is not from a few months ago.

I put in the new meter readings to EDF just after midnight, and today got the bill with the DD changed again. So I phoned EDF (no wait this time) to reset the DD.
This time the tale was that if you are on a DD then you should only submit readings every 6 months because the system recalculates the DD after every meter reading (which is what we all knew, but they are now saying it) - and that if we want to submit meter readings every month we should move off the DD tarrif !!!
