IMO the only disadvantage of electric grills over gas is the same as the disadvantage electric rings have over gas: you can't instantly reduce the heat. You can turn the grill off a bit early and it still keeps cooking, but it takes a bit of practice to learn when to do that.
But will you be OK with a non-eye level grill?
I've got a double oven built in NOT under the hob, which makes the grill at eye level, which is where I like it.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks Savvy sue. Yes this new oven will have the grill at my eye level (my oven at the moment has the grill at my eye level).
It will be a built in one, with a unit underneath it and one on top.
I have to have it this way, so its at my eye level as I have a problem bending down. So ovens that go under work tops are no good for me, as they are to low down etc.
Thanks very much for all your help. Its much appreciated :j0 -

When the door opens downwards, if you walk into it you'll get a burn about an inch wide.
If it opens sideways and you walk into it the wrong way, you'll get a bigger burn if you can't reverse off pdq.
Do make sure you hang the door the 'right' way to minimise the risks of this, ie so that you're more likely to push it shut than open if you walk into it!
I like mine opening down as I can lift things onto it if I'm trying to get them out and I haven't made space on the worktop ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Dont forget if you change from gas to electric you will need a dedicated ring main put in for it.0

Have you thought of trying/do you have the space for a table top mini oven/grill, that'd be higher. They're about £30 and Lidl often have them, among other places. What are you grilling?0

I have a downward door on my double oven the shelves slide out so I can pull them out to place whatever I am cooking on them then slide back in so I don't have to reach into the oven, the door doesn't get in the way because the shelves slide right out... I think its also safer if I spill/drop anything as it lands on the open door and I can just wipe it up.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Once again, Thanks everyone for the replies.
I am going to go to John Lewis tomorrow. To test some out. Just to see what I find easiest. I have found out the do an oven by Neff where the door drops down, and slides into the oven. Thou I am not sure how easy I will find that.
That is good thinking tanith about pulling the shelves out, I wouldnt have thought of that!
Will check out the mini oven thing PasturesNew
Thanks again, everyone has been really helpful0 -

I've seen those on cookery programmes on TV and wondered who made them!0 -
Hi
I had the same problem but now have a Leisure gas cooker. The great thing is it is a SAFE cooker because there is actually a basket attached to the door which means no burnt hands when you are trying to serve dinner, or problems balancing as you can stir the meal or check on the chips easily!
Amazingly they are the only company that do them - I managed to persuade my OT to pay for mine - eventually as I was constantly burning my hands and it got dangerous!0
